Pepa mbale Kudya Discovery lodges ceased to exist including the filling station they were peddled off after the demise of the father who was the sole proprietor of the structures. Kudya lodge in liwonde was bought by indians its now Hippo view lodge, the one in BT is now Soche discovery lodge, the sons who were the purpoted heirs can be seen loitering around town.
Makes you think, what is it with most of malawian businesses once the one who set the ball rolling kicks the bucket the whole empire crumbles? We need proper set up of our conglomerates.

Indeed that is a very big problem, not only in Malawi but amongst Africans. To keep a good business you need a good education and most of us open up businesses but do not study about. Our kids have to be encouraged to venture into the same field. Akuchimuna is also a problem, they will sit back and relax waiting for family member to pass on so that they should take control of the business despite not having a clue when it comes to running the businesses. Charms is another factor, if you depend on mankhwala for your business to run know that your demise is the demise of the business. Since your inheritors does not know your chizimba zimba. Not to forget Mabebi, and extravagance if you failed to get them due to the limited funds which your late father provided you.
The biggest problem with Malawian owner managed businesses is in how prone owners are to ignoring the need to hire professional managers and technicians when the business grows to a point. That and the use of incompetent family for managers. Once a business reaches a certain size, there is no way you (the owner) can retain direct control of its every aspect without bringing it down in the process.
I will have to agree with you. Most successful interpreneurs have surrounded themselves with competent individuals. Just because you have sons does not necessarily mean that they should take over the business. They have to show interest in order for you to pass on the business to them. They can own the business without running day to day events.
The key is that as malawians we have to incorporate so that the business can become a separate entity from us that even if we die the business can go on. A solepropriator can only go so far.
am not from blantyre but those kids will die poor, adzafa amphawi.
No all of them will die amphawi there is one now staying in lilongwe and he is doing fine he is running his own shop that sales stationery, driving a good car and anakwatira mkazi wabwino
