A six-month old baby is lying in agony at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) after being defiled and seriously injured by her stepfather. The step-dad, Nason Khasu, 22, from Mtengo Village, TA Mazengera in central district of Lilongwe, is currently in Police custody. Hospital director Hadji Juma said Wednesday the baby was defiled and is being treated for deep cuts on her private parts. “It’s indeed true that the baby was defiled. She has been stitched in its private parts. Though stable, the baby will have to spend some time in hospital since the wound is deep,” said Juma. Central Region Police public relations officer Moyenda Chitimbe said the incident happened on Monday morning when the baby’s mother, Elina Mwase, left the child in the care of her husband when she went to a nearby river to draw water. Chitimbe said Mwase overheard the baby crying loudly as she got near their house on her return from the river. According to the PRO, upon entering the house, Mwase was shocked to find her husband defiling the baby. Chitimbe said the suspect was arrested by Matapila Police before being transferred to Nathenje. He said Khasu is currently at the Lilongwe Police Station, waiting to answer charges of incest and defilement. “If convicted, Khasu can be slapped with a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. The police is, therefore, advising the public to study the mindset of their spouses and other people before entrusting them with children,” said Chitimbe. In an exclusive interview at KCH Wednesday, Mwase said she went to draw water at about 6 am, leaving the child with Khasu. But on her way back from the river, she heard the baby making strange cries, only to find her husband lying on top of the baby when she rushed into the house. “It was like a dream. I asked him what he was doing to the baby with his clothes off. He said he was trying to pick it up since it was crying,” said Mwase, 19, who hails from Madula Village, TA Mazengera. She said she went outside the house with the baby, but was surprised that she was refusing to breast-feed and instead cried even more loudly. The nonstop crying, according to Mwase, made her suspect the baby had developed a stomach upset. However, she said she was shocked afterwards to see blood all over the cloth in which the child was wrapped. “I was very scared. I suspected something bad had happened to my baby. I quickly checked her private parts and found that blood was oozing. She had deep cuts. I rushed into the house, asked my husband what he had done to the baby and he said he knew nothing,” said the mother. But Mwase further quizzed Khasu why there was blood on his manhood, to which he responded by saying that he had smeared the blood on the genitals after scratching a wound on his mouth. Not satisfied with the answer, Mwase alerted relatives around the village who quizzed Khasu. However, the suspect denied to have defiled the baby. The baby was later taken to Matapila Health Centre, accompanied by Khasu and other villagers, to verify whether or not she had been defiled. “[The health centre staff] said the cuts on [the baby’s] private parts were too big for them to handle the situation. We were referred to Kamuzu Central and Khasu was reported to Matapila Police where he was arrested,” said Mwase. She said she had just spent two months in marriage with Khasu after being dumped by her husband. Mwase said she is determined not to return to Khasu, who she described as “a monster” The ward at KCH where the baby is admitted to was full of people wearing shocked faces on Wednesday. Some sympathisers, especially women, could not hold their temper, insulting Khasu and calling him a monster, saying he should be slapped with a stiff penalty if found guilty. Looking unmoved, Khasu in a later interview at Lilongwe Police Station denied defiling his stepdaughter. He said he was surprised to see the baby’s napkins soaked in blood. “I am waiting for the medical report from Kamuzu Central Hospital . If they prove the baby was defiled, I will have no choice, but to accept,” said Khasu.
Whatever happened to HUMANITY AND SANITY?

Six months old for goodness sake! Such an innocent soul, awandiye mapeto akuzelezeka. Some men are really dogs and what was he thinking? Even an insane person can not do such a thing. I can not imagine the psychological trauma the mother is going through. These endangered species are not needed in our societies. They should lock him up and throw away the keys!! Let’s hope he did not transmit any living organisms into the baby. She doesn’t deserve it.
This man is one of the Morons which I cannot describe, how can one be aroused and think of having sex with a baby 6 months old damaging everthing with his big *****. Death sentence or life imprisonment is appropriate for this guy. Cant he go and releive himself on cheap prostitutes which are in Malawi. They charge as low as 20kwacha. If I could be a biological father of this baby I could have removed his private parts including pubic hair and feed Afisi or some Mad dogs. Some madness at its best
This guy should be castrated and made to eat his "genitals" after the castration,I mean what "excitement" or pleasure can one get when there is no penetration?Chovuta ndi chani kukamulipila hule 200 Kwacha and get the satisfaction? This is really sad and every day something like this is happening in Malawi, whats wrong with the country or rather the people?
Cry my beloved Malawi!!!

Okay as horrible as this crime is, it's not a sign of the end of the world or a breakdown of civilisation. Such crimes happen everywhere, even here in the UK. And it is an unusual and gladly, uncommon crime.
One cannot even imagine the punishment that would fit this crime. In fact I believe that the perpetuator might have mental health issues and probably needs treatment more than punishment (even though I'm not in the position to say so).

You always seem to be the first to misunderstand me.
No one said anywhere is the blueprint for anywhere. I work for Social services and trust me, I see the worst in human nature. As appalling as this crime is, it happens everywhere and it's not the first time its happened in Malawi either. I have read another story like this one way back when I lived in Malawi.
In human nature, if something is possible, rest assured humans have done it. There is no new "sin" or "crime". It's been done before.
And don't be ridiculous I never said it was normal. Can't you read or do I always have to verify my notions to you.

If it happens every where and from long time ago then it is normal according to Abre. This is so confusing wawo bulasa you sound so unperturbed about the issue. I have never in my life heard of a mentally challenged fellow doing such an act. If the divine scriptures say that towards the end of world unusual things will happen then who are we to deny. Keep your mouth shut if you are antagonistic towards God.
Of course its all hocus pocus only the ignorant guys do this look at this example from the original posting:
“I am waiting for the medical report from Kamuzu Central Hospital . If they prove the baby was defiled, I will have no choice, but to accept,” said Khasu.
Can we really say the brain of this guy works, he should be done the John Tembo style (meat for crocodiles) away with the defilers.
Abu
I've had enough of the religious issues on this forum dont bring it into this morals issue the topic at hand is straight forward, dont try to take it to something else or are you trying to be a troll?

sick, sick.whats wrong with society?call me a paranoia but i wouldnt let any funny looking bloke anywhere close to my kid,not even a friend of mine whom is so addicted to sex,as much as it is sickening, these people often have long term psychological and mental problems especially if they were defiled and abused as children.these cases remain untapped in malawi due to lack of social education.abre is right.people dont choose to be psychotic socialpaths,it stems down to childhood experiences.
in countries like america and te UK you will find mental health institutions thats deal with such cases.these people are everywhere, even on this forum, you will find people who were molested as kids hence their irrational behaviour.
