Was having a heated argument with some folks about this at work this morning. People from both sides.

The main question was why the west wasn't doing anything to stop Israel from these war crimes.

One guy, black, Muslim, said something that was so profound and put a stop to the debate.

He said no white people would ever fight over brown people. Its never happened and is not ever going to happen.

How true. I can't think of anytime in modern history when that has happened...

Can anyone else?

A close friend of mine (indian moslem) told me that most parties in US are funded by Jews he further said they control the economy,it proves some sense whenever Israel goes to war.

Although its true that there's a massive and influential Jewish lobby in Washington and that the US sometimes supports Israel unconditionally eve though it might be against its own interest, to say that most parties (there are only 2) in the IS are funded by Jews is an overstatement. There are hundreds of lobbies and interests: oil, arms, drugs that are even more influential.

I don't really know why; and I'm not sure anyone has a simple answer why, the US does this (Isreal has no oil and might be seen as a waste of money). Probably because it is geo-politically placed and its influence with the Christian right... I really don't know. And I'm not quick to jump on the anti-zionist bandwagon, even though I hate Isreal policy.

In addition, I came across an article in the New York book review website. Haven't reas the book but the review of it is an eye-opener.

You're right, there are definite geo-political advantages to reciprocally supporting the most powerful country in an otherwise hostile region. And no politician wants to offend the most powerful group of voters back home.

True. But the article I linked above argues that Israel is a liability to the US in the long run (something I believe) as a result of the Iraq war. The fact that the US has slowly realised that it can't use its military force to grab oil resources it'll have to re-negotiate its position in the middle east as opposed to sabre rattling.

The present Lebannon incursion by Israel is a projection of America's design and probably widere planning; It is sure to fail if it goes as far as Syria or Iran- China and Russia step in, oil prices go sky-high, US economy suffers as does global economy....

isnt this about the new nuclear block that is unfolding in the east? Look at Iran so defiant with its tests, not talking about the far east, i can see a bigger giant (arms and trade) coming from that side since the Americans have no beef with all these countries and the botched up Iraq weapons of mass destruction nowhere to be found, how elses can they get at Iran? Use the sacrificial lamb that is Israel (which is a burden after all) and incite the whole moslem region to join in, where does this put disorganised Russia? of-course under the arm of Bush the war monger and his G8 pricks. I hate to think like this but Bush will never rest until he tries out a nuke on one of the moslem states, look at Bush he looks like an ostrich with its head in the sand after his funny foreign and military policy

I agree. I hate Bush and all the US regime stand for. But never underestimate Russia. Hitler did once and lost WWII. They are large, has extensive resources and armed to the teeth. With China on Russia's side (which is usually the case) The clout of those 2 countries is enormous. Especially China.

Whatever the case America is in the hands of madmen. Dangerous, criminals.

But what? Economic clout is the basis of everything.

America is a hegemonic power because of its wealth. Its confidence is based on it. It can get away with agression because of it.

It depends on which context 'modern' is used here. There was a war over the abolition of slavery wasn't there and the 1st Gulf War was over Kuwait. Arguments can quickly follow that no, it was all over oil but I believe it is more about stopping a rightist power developing in the Middle East.

Either way, Sadam's invasion of Kuwait was as much a Western problem as it was Kuwaiti, you can't say the war was fought for Kuwait (as an act of solidarity). You're right in saying that it was fought over Kuwait; Whose problem would it have been if a hostile power, already in control of the second largest reserves in the world (after Saudi Arabia) suddenly had control over an an additional 8%?

Well they were fighting other brown people to protect their oil investments.

Let no one deceive you that the American civil war was to "free" the slaves. It was about American nationalism.
