ROMA THE BEST TV SERIES EVER
Permalink Closed

If you are into politics, adventure, historical events Roma has all this for you.  If you are like me someone who has always been fascinated with the whole Roman empire history then this one is for you.  It has it all the likes of Julius Ceaser, Marc Anthony, Octavia, Pompus all of those famous names who made History.  It has seduction, romance, betrayal, cruelty, action, slavery and it is funny sometimes.  If you are into politics then you can learn a thing or too from the experts.  The birth of modern democracy.  It is magnificent, compelling and gripping.

In Latin America one can watch it on saturday around 9 pm Argentinian time on HBOIn US it is also on HBO but i dont know exactly when.  In the UK it is on BBC1 on Wednesday i am not so sure about time.  Read your TV guide dont miss this one.

thanks for sharing your passion on Roman history,i am fascinated whith sex like karma sutra, the art of making love to a woman,i will fill you in when i master it fully,ha ha its funny how people differ in things.oh i also like guns, uzi's and AK's then there is this burning desire for movies like shawshank redemption, the matrix, something that messes up your mind.i also spend much of my time on play station2 and xbox aint it funny.

i also write alot of poems, short stories,i have piles and piles of memoirs and manuscripts some weak and some publishable.it gets boring when one talks about the things one likes,am so glad you feel the Roman history,i like the whole conspiracy theory on the death of Julius ceaser,i often think i was that sooth sayer in my previous life warning people to behold the doom to come.haha aint it funny.

I disagree. I have seen the entire season of Rome and I found it a touch overrated. I'll leave out the historical inaccuracies since the makers can claim artistic licence and of course certain liberties have to be taken to produce dramatic effect. But I couldn't help but feel that its lack of subtlety and overblown set pieces played it a disadvantage. The characters consequently look almost lost in it. It is less of Spartacus of Anthony Mann's Fall of The Roman Empire. More like Carry On Ceasar meets Gladiator - and that's a bad thing.

Apart from that I love the subtext of criticism of the American empire that seems to betray it's every scene. Being an HBO production it is entirely fearless in the sex, violence and nudity stakes - and that's a good thing. But as with other HBO productions like the brilliant Sopranos, it doesn't deliver the ultimate bad guy figure.

It still is lush and at times extremely compelling.

you have watched the entire season of Rome,  how is that possible?  That is so unfair, here we are only on the 6th episode, i have to wait for Saturday to watch it and it only runs for an hour.  I get so frustrated when it is over because like all series they leave you in suspence and you just cant wait to see what will happen next, although you know the whole History of Rome but when its a TV series then it is different you have faces and images and you can imagine, it could have been like this.

You didnt like it thats okay.  I on the other hand I dont like the Sopranos.  To me i thought this was the best series that i have ever watched it keeps me glued to the TV.  Yes some characters and things are probably exagerated like the mother of Octavia she is too bitchy, too ambitious, she seems not to even care about hurting her childrens feelings.  Do you think that in those days the masters would have sex and the slaves watched, waiting for the master to ask for water?  Its a debatable issue on whether the Romans could have lived like how it is portrayed in this series in those days?

I havent watched all the episodes of this series but so far it has been it has been to my liking.

I can give a long list of TV series that are more compelling than Rome. As to Nali, if you are a computer geek like me you can get the entire series downloaded on torrent. It's only in it's second episode her in the UK but I couldn't wait to see it all and get in there before my friends and everyone at work.
