I really love New Orleans. Not just because of mardi gras or bourbon st but just the feel of it. it is so calming and yet so diverse. I have been there several times and each time it felt like the first, falling in love. I've been to the aquarium, the zoo, down the mississipi on the river boat cruise and ofcourse strolled down the famous bourbon st. I have stared at the majestic cathedral and awed by the richness of the culture of New Orleans. I have been seranaded by the street jazz singers, and I was looking forward to my next trip when Katrina struck. I gave from the little that I have to those that have nothing at all. I know some of us might say someone else or the US Gov is capable helping but human kindness should not be about "someone else can help" it should be about how can I help? 1 800 HELP NOW. do your part, tomorrow you might be on the receiving end.
Yeah and I was just thinking, I used to love Baghdad. What a beautiful city. Beautiful people, rich with culture (the oldest civilisation on earth).
But not anymore.
That on the other hand was a direct result of hostility. Totally man-made.
I know some of you might say the US government is capable of helping the people there, but it is causing more problems - apart from the fact that no foreigners can walk throught town without the fear of being kidnapped and beheaded. Or blown up by rebels.
I'll leave that to the government to sort out. It is their responsibility. And the fact that they are prepared to spend money on transport for ministers and allowances for officials. Well, maybe the anger of the masses would create a situation whereby they'll eventually rise and challenge the government; though I'm not holding my breath...
I'm sick and tired of giving my hard earned money year in year out. It's almost as if the government deliberately does it so that help can come from abroad and thereby relinquishing their responsibilities to the citizens of Malawi. Like the time they sold the maize in storage just because the IMF said so. Knowing pretty well that they are reliant on rain and that can always fail.
No way Jose! I'm not giving anything this year. Maybe not for a long time. Things just gotta change.
I have some friends who been hit by this tragedy and its very sad to see how these pple have been neglected. These pple are not asking for a lot just by meeting pple and giving them a shoulder to cry on is very helpful. Show love and kindness to the victims its what they need at the end of the day. Some of them still dont know where the rest of there families are its just a very painful time they're going thru. Lets show some love anyway we can.

Just realised my above post was on the wrong thread but...
But you know chichi how I can't resist a spat with you. Well being a total cynic; even though compassion is good, it is useless to someone who's hungry and has lost all his stuff. Then need help. stuff, food, money; not hugs and kisses.
On the other hand I feel a pretty guilty sense of schadenfraude. Anytime anything bad happens in America (as long as it doesn't affect someone I know) I feel that the chickens are just returning home to roost.
Why aren't you mourning for the thousands of slaughtered Iraqi (a totally man-made disaster that EVERY sane person warned about). Entire families destroyed by napalm and depeted uranium. Babies, pregnant mothers, their fathers.
Chichi, never have I heard you; with all your christian charity, say anything about the unaccounted for thousands that Americans killed in the Fallujah massacre. One of the worst human rights abuses of recent years. Just because New Orleans and Alabama are at a close proximity to you in (wherever the hell you are) I would really like to hear what you have to say about the killings in Iraq by your government.
This shows to me that abre u have no idea what ur talking about. Showing love to pple doesnt mean only hugs and kisses. Love means giving going there physically to help these pple who are going thru this hard time. I feel for the pple of Iraq, and anyone whose going thru anything horrible in this world. This topic though was not about Iraq as my understanding is that this topic was about New Orleans. Bring up a topic about Iraq and i will tell what i think about it. U dont even understand the word love then what the hell do u understand. It doesnt matter if ur in America, Africa, Asia etc.... When pple are going thru a hard time like that as a human being all u have is love and compasion for them and if u can help u try ur best to thats all. That has nothing to do with christianity or religion. Boy u just got some wires in head twisted ur over loading too much in that brain one of these days it will crush. peace
