firstly... are men and women really equal in todays society, if not who is the more oppressed. Some would argue that men actually are the less equal sex due to the fact that they are percieved as the dominant sex and so face sexism due to eg employers being worried about alligations of sexism if they dont employ the female applicant
Also is there a need to be equal... why does everyone search for equality... is it because they just want to have what others have? is it selfishness?
lastly, are we ever going to be actually equal, there are so many differences that it is stupid to even think about the idea of equality!
Your thoughs please!

You know this whole idea of equality is really less than a century old. Previously in Europe with the Monarchies, people were automatically by virtue of being born, higher classed than others. Well, with the fall of monarchies, and the rise of industrial based capitalism. Land owners, were no longer the bourgeoise class but the industrial onwer. Consequently consumption and the ability to purchase/control production became the criteria for high society. The idea was "anyone can acquire wealth and status".
Of course that's not the truth since women and blacks were considered unfit for that. Women (since Judeo-christianity stated that they were under men) and blacks because, well they were stll slaves. Underclass.
Well, in time, after 2 world wars and a loss of millions of men folk plus the rise of female movements and human rights etc. They could argue that they deserved the same treatment because their contribution to the status quo i.e. wealth was adequate to demand a fair share of the pie. That still goes on till today.
Of course I've simplified it. But equality is a myth since no one even has an inkling what equality they are aiming at.
Take for instance black americans. Are you trying to tell me all those marches by Martin Luther and Malcolm X etc were just so that we can have some moron on MTV saying how much "Benjamins" he has and how he can afford a Mercedez? To him that's enough equality for him. Other blacks are fighting for better living condition or schools and health care for themselves. That's equality for them.
Same can apply for women. Women fail to understand that they are actually more influential than men in this world. Ever since they began to fight fo financial equality, they rocked the boat, now they have to compete in the boardrooms, instead of rulling the world by batting their eyelids like they always have...
Well, in my opinion men and women will never be treaten equally. Men are used to feel superior to women. That's a big problem. Women (the most of them) feel suppressed and are "afraid" to prevail, because of knowing they would not have any chances to win. They can't resist male dominance. Women are just too passive. They adapt to certain stereotypes. And men ... they observe them very often as "sex object"

Well it depends on your perspectives. I know women who are satisfied and confident with sexual objectification and use it as an advantage. It works so well for them and pisses other feminist types.
And Sexually woman have the upper hand. Why because men are driven to pass on their seed and have to do everything thay can to get laid. Women have the upper hand to chose who to accept. All that stuff about calling women bitches and stuff was invented by men to make women feel inferior about their sexuality hence increasing their (men) chances for their seed..
Thanks to contraception (of which a lot religious bigots frown upon) women can now have sex without the fear of being pregnant. Sexual freedon has resulted in a change of balance. Good for women, bad for men. Means we need to try a little harder.
lastly, are we ever going to be actually equal, there are so many differences that it is stupid to even think about the idea of equality! Your thoughs please!
True there are obvious biological differences that make the genders by definiton unqual. I think it could have been better if they valued the feminity, instead of trying make women more masculine.

MISS THANG,
and why would the greater woman be behind a great man?I thought the greater of the two has to be in front?I can at least understand the saying "behind every great man there's a tired woman"that is at least palatable.I am not trying to be a male chauvinist but hey!lets be honest, your adage is not true.
