Malawian UK rape victim attempts suicide

by Mc Donald Chapalapata, 24 March 2004 - 16:29:04

A Malawian woman, Ruth Lourenco, 36, who is accusing three Leicester City players for rape, is reported to have attempted suicide by taking a massive cocktail of drugs.
The Sun newspaper, UK’s tabloid reported at the weekend that Lourenco was rushed to a hospital in Spain after taking a cocktail of different drugs.
Doctors, The Sun reported, said Lourenco took 22 diazepam sedatives, three glass phials of denubil, 1,000mg of the cold cure cortafriol, and noctamid sleeping drops.
“Ruth (Lourenco) was found collapsed after the overdose in her room at the Montynar Hotel in Nazaron, Spain. She slipped into a coma and was unconscious for eight hours,” reported The Sun.
The paper also said after eight hours of treatment Lourenco regained consciousness and was discharged on Wednesday last week.
One medic is reported to have said: "Half the number of diazepam tablets this lady took would have been enough to kill her —without all the other things she took."
Ruth, who lives in Germany, claims she was raped by Leicester City striker Paul Dickov while team mate Keith Gillespie pinned her against a wall.
Another player, Frank Sinclair, is alleged to have attacked Ruth's two Kenyan pals, Beatrice Wanjiro, 31, and Martha Wilbert, 37 at a hotel in Le Manga last month. The men deny all allegations and are on bail.
Lourenco was, in 1999, acquitted by the Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court on charges of trafficking Malawian girls to Europe where they worked as prostitutes in sex clubs.

2 Words or whoever you're,

What do you mean by 'can you blame her?'. Damn right, I can. That's a defeatist's approach to handling one's problems. Nothing, and indeed nothing, warrants taking own's life. As much as whatever might have happened is regrettable, it only makes alot of sense to get over it and move on because after all is said and done, it is about life(and not rape, trauma or anything).Don't be scared of moving slowly, be scared to stand still. And mind you, I'm writing this to all my peoples who share 2 Word's line of thought. I am certain you just overlooked an instance that this woman is a wife, a daughter and could as well be a mother and a sister to somebody. Take a moment and think about all these people and place yourself in their shoes, would you then blame her for the failed attempt? Come on now homie get your mind right.

Guess what? I think I know this "lady", Ruth.

She is or was married to George Lourenco a Mozambican who came to seek refuge in Malawi during the Mozambique war. Some of you may remember Hollywood Club (George's Disco)in area 47 . Well, this place was owned by Ruth and George. For those people who knew this couple before they were suprised how they got so rich overnight, they had bought several big trucks and nice houses among other things.

Well, to cut the long story short. Soon they were being investigated  for taking women abroad and selling them to brothels. Ruth was arrested but and while she was on bail she managed to escape out of the country............ apparently she went back to her old business...

Things you do in life always have a way of catching up with you. I remember George's Disco since 1989 when they used to do teen time shows on sundays at Lilongwe Town Hall. That was the time I was introduced to alcohol (POWERS NO 9) which was selling for K3.00 for the 750 ml bottle, and dancing to MC Hammer, De la soul, C&C Music factory etc. OOOh those were the days. Ruth wasnt in the picture then. It wasnt until the early 90's that she got hooked up with George and they opened Hollywood. Life is truly a Bitch.

Can you feel me?

What this lady did in the past has nothing to do with what is happening to her now.  After all, we are all answerable to some higher power -- and let the one who is without sin cast the first stone.

I doubt that any one of us has the actual goods on her life of prostitution or lady pimping.  But even if we did, does that mean that she deserved being raped?  NOPE! While I do not agree with her wanting to take the easy way out by committing suicide, I understand too that the violation that she went through is what she is having trouble dealing with.  Her past and her life have nothing to do with her being raped.  It was a violation of her essential rights because he did not have her consent!

Just my two cents of a stunk opinion--kudos

Whether the football players are guilty or not only the judicial system will decide and  of  course God will judge them too on the judgement day.

But what I know for sure is that Ruth has caused a lot of suffering  to some women and their families. At a certain point one of the women who was sold into this sex slavery also tried to commit suicide and her life has never been the same ever since.

Should the courst of law decide that the football never committed this crime then Ruth and her friends will have added a few name names to a list of people who have suffered in her/their hands.

One thing both parties should know is that the investigations by Scotland Yard is very thorough and they will leave no stone unturned which is an advantage to to whoever is the victim of this incident. May the truth prevail.
