NYUMBA YA THANZI PRESENTS

A CELEBRATION OF MALAWI INDEPENDENCE DAY

Nyumba Ya Thanzi, in collaboration with Maestro Music, is hosting unique and
unforgettable nights of Malawian music in London - July 6th at CARGO 8pm til
1am - and Manchester - July 8th at the Green Room 8pm til 2am - in
celebration of a small African country with a massive heart and some very
fine musical talent! Come along and...

CELEBRATE Malawian Independence Day with three live Malawian music
performances;

SUPPORT Nyumba Ya Thanzi, assisting Malawian led development projects in
Malawi, and;

DANCE the summer night away to the soulful vibes of African music!

The theme is "BWERERA" (going back), and the concerts are all about going to
Malawi for the night, both in your heart and in your mind. Bwerera; to remind
people not to forget Malawi, both the beauty and the problems; to come and
appreciate Malawian music, culture and talent, while raising money for people
there that need it. It's time to shake your body African style to the
following outstanding line up of Malawian musicians!!

Peter Mawanga: One of Malawi's most talented artists will be flying in fresh
from Malawi to perform his unique blend of soul drenched traditional African
music, Malawian rhythms, acoustic guitar with a dash of Western harmonies.
Mawanga's total devotion to addressing the problems facing Malawi is
reflected in his lyrics and in his work with the Malawian Child. He has
produced a fantastic album with the children of SASO (Salima Aids Support
Organization), in collaboration with Nyumba Ya Thanzi.

Aphofomoka: This duo, from Lilongwe, Capital City of Malawi, combine their
inspirations, soca and hip hop, with local beats to create their unique sound
- "phofo" music - which literally means, 'get down with it!' They just can't
fail to get the crowds jumpin' around. Famous tunes include 'Kilimu ya ku
Malawi', where Aphofomoka sing of their pride in Malawian women.

King Chiozo: The Malawian Afro-Reggae artist, often to be found singing his
sweet reggae tunes across London. He's got classic vocal styles and guitar
rifts, a little bit of Marley with a twist of Hendrix and the whisper of
Africa... Next year, he will undertake the great 11,000mile walk from Cairo
to Cape Town. This epic adventure is not just about music, but also to
encourage the African Diaspora in Britain to learn more about their
continent. He intends to document the daily struggles of communities and
tribes and understand their solutions to Africa's problems.

DJ Double T: Formally of Power 101 Malawi Radio, will be spinning African
beats and tunes to get the crowds a-movin' and a-shakin'!

All proceeds from the night will go to Nyumba Ya Thanzi, a charity committed
to creating opportunities for Malawians to find solutions to their county's
problems.

6th July - £8 - Cargo. 83 Rivington Street, Shoreditch London EC2A 3AY
