Abale, I was reading up on Malawi Nation and two things really upset me today. How can Bingu be so short sited like his predecessor and start killing our brothers and sisters with his stupid policies? In the face that people are dying of hunger and the Govt is seeking assistance from the donor community:
1. Malawi Govt bought Chakuamba a BMW X5 for $130,000.00
2. The Malawi Govt has started the work of building the multi billion dollar Mausoleum for Kamuzu.
Firstly could the Bingu explain to the hungry Malawians why it is important for the Minister of Agriculture to be riding in a $130,000 vehicle. For once do these people know the value of a dollar? I am a self made millionaire and I am driving my $65,000 Range Rover to get from point A to B.
I have a lot of respect for the Ngwazi and I am one of the people who benefited immensely by his dreams. I am one of those who went to the Kamuzu Academy when it was known as the Eton of Africa. However I have reservations for the Govt to be spending this kind of money especially at this time when our brothers and sisters are dying from hunger. Why can't this project wait until a better time? For crying out Lord, we have an issue of life and death. Bingu are you not an Economist who should understand "Cost benefit analysis?". Let us be serious. Besides Kamuzu left a lot of millions to those close to him. Why can't these people use some of that money to build a Mausoleum if the place his remains are resting is not fitting enough for a man of his stature?
I am inclined to believe that these Politicians do not really care about Malawians. Bingu, some of us have not forgotten how you used to stand on the podium and told Malawians that once elected he was not going to live at the expensive Sanjika Palace but would spend time at the modest Mtunthama. Yet you damn well knew that your eyes were on the Obscene Opulent Mansion in Lilongwe. Oh My God! what is wrong with you people? Is it not your duty to fight and protect the poor Malawians?
i feel your point man,its right you brought this mousoleum issue back, what the malawi government is doing is spitting in the face of those who died and some still dying of hunger and diseases due to lack of medicine in hospitals.
when malawi people thought Bingu was the best out of the bad bunch he has just turned his back on them like they dont exist at all.i still dont understand why one would think of spending large amounts of money to immortalise the man who killed and tortured his own people whenever they crossed paths.that money can change the lives of millions of poor malawians, from education,H.I.V aids,to farmers failing to take their produce to the big markets because of poor road networks.
He is becoming worse than his predecessor, they are living a hiphop life style they see on tv when they have a bigger task of rebuilding the lives of poor malawians.and Gwanda really pisses me off,why is he still clinging to politics when he failed malawians on many occassions.

Malawians are all partly to blame for all of this too.
Sometimes (although I might be wrong) I think that the Malawian public still have a long way to go to break from the spirit of Kamuzuism and excercise some people power. The whole politcal structure has been constructed in a way that power is not in the people's hands, but in the hands of a few corrupt elite. This to me is the very opposite of a democracy.
No matter how bad things get it just seems that Malawians still fear fighting the power. With all the corruption going on no one seems to be complaining hard enough, vocal enough or even angry enough. What gives?
I might not know enough about Malawi and might sound a little presumptious but, Isn't it time we collectively did something about it instead of moaning on forums like these and then going back to our godforsaken lives....
Now let me breaking down to you, as president, i know what we face in public office. i know that people are dying but i need the support of the centalr region people and therefore with this Kamuzu thing, you know damn well i will get their support. Then Tembo wont be a problem anymore.
But look at the glass as half full not half empty. with the Kumuzu whatever. This in the long run will get us money. It will be an attraction for tourists all over. But before that we need the people in diaspora to do one thing and that is to sell Kamuzu to people.
About Chakumba, i totally agree. That was a waste. i feel chakuamba useless to be in cabinet anyway. I never agreed with his appointment, you definately sure i wont agree to him getting a whatever ride. Zausilu.
But i still have hope in Bingu. I still think we can come up with a good govt with this guy. If only, muluzi would leave him alone. So my people, tiyeni timupatsebe mpata binguyo.
so what do you suggest is the right medium to air out our grievances apart from the forum.you seem to have a better idea because i thought people from all walks of life can access malawiana than they can access any newspaper or mbc.
this is the right channel to tell Bingu that we are watching, malawian people want democracy not stupid bureaucracy, the current adminstration as well as its predecessor are spending more than they are getting putting poor people and the whole of our economy on the verge of destruction.isnt it government money that Bingu used to buy chakuamba a very expensive car.and yet chikakwiya and m'mwawa are going to spend years in jail for the same crime he is committing.
as Ayatollah said i thought Bingu is a venerated financial genius who had designed and implemented reforms that revitalised comesa.maybe its true that he got kicked out because of corruption.
you know what, when i finish what am doing i will kick some asss in the government.Bingu in particular.

I doubt if anyone with any clout in the Malawi govt. even even reads this forum let alone take it seriously. We just make up the chattering classes that have a lot to say and cannot do anything about our grieviances.
How many folks in Malawi have access to the internet or can even use a computer? Let's be honest most of the stuff said in this column is below-par intellectually; idle gossip and insults about who's sleeping with who? This is a synonymous with the wider problem which we have everywhere in Malawi. Those who have real concrete things to say are simply pushed aside, called names and ridiculed. Why because the majority of folk don't have the insight to see through long term. Another result of Kamuzuism. Malawi society is a hot-bed for shallow minded, self censorship, that even years of education doesn't seem to help.
Malawi has to have positive POLITICAL leadership. Unfortunately, old rules of tribalism and nepotism still apply... Hence we get Bingu and Muluzi.
Someone once said that democracy means that the people are governed no more or less than they deserve...

Kesso, this is one of the mnost intelligent things I have read on this topic...isnt it ? Do we have the clout - I believe that if some of us Malawianas went home with our ideas - we could make a change- BUT we would need to work over aour differences - when i saw GAme and Kesso compromise- or have a temprary seize fire it was all good. Now we know we can work with both of you cuz u can work together- if we had politicians do the same thing- work together to imporive Malawi - what a wonderful workd this would be, Ill see friends holding hands sayign ';how do u do" there really saying ... (just kidding) but seriously - does Malawiana hav the Power to take all the ideas and suggetions in thie forum and not only put them on paper but put them in to action or are Malawians "all talk" - cuz sometimes I think I am all talk too and that action may not materialise cuz i get caught up in my own life- car payments and clubbing money etc..
U should listen to Mafikizoli, South African, they have some great jazz numbers in some of theri albums. the penny whislte and township jive sound's great.
ps, I dont think u know me. Id be shocked beyond belief if anyone knew who I was. those that know me well may know, but its all good. If any of us wanted to be known, we would have used our real names as our screen names!
I think you're right 'though. But I use my real name, or rather a nickname version of my real name. So those who went to school with me or knew me from Blantyre or LL know who it is.
Anonymity might be great, but I also prefare people know who's insulting them or challenging their dogamtic views on rubbish...

Am trying to figure out who you are.Give me some clues, cause the name sounds familiar but am not sure if your the some person am thinking of.
Way back when... When I was broke, homeless and basically a hustler. Yes it's the same person. And I'm glad to say that somehow I made it through, got away from it all and started a new life away from it all...
