girls who say money is not important are not being truthful to themselves.

financial security does matter a lot.  hence the talk about ambition, drive, work ethic, etc.

the pretty girls tend to more materialistic.  basically, they can get what they want.  they have the power to refuse, and depending on how pretty they are, they can even get away with murder.  

and the guys with the wealth and/or high earning power appears to be classier guys....  drive a Benz, go to nice restaurants in a suit, go on trips to Europe, shower girls with expensive gifts,  etc.  but people's innate human nature are the same whether he's rich or poor.... except the rich appear nicer because the rich can afford to be nicer.

the less pretty girls are not as choosy since they have fewer suitors so they prefer to settle down with a "nice" guy.  but, it's because they don't have as many choices.

girls and guys i should say go through phases.  when we're young, we are a bit more idealistic... we want the good looking guy or the good looking girl, who cares if they have an IQ of 100.  they are hot and fun and so we want them.  as we get older, our stage of life has changed.  we want to settle down, we want to have a family, and finding a partner to share a lifetime together becomes more important.

of course there are exceptions to everything.  a poor and ugly guy with a great heart can hit the lottery and have a drop dead gorgeous, smart and faithful woman as his wife.  but, these cases are exceptions. 

usually girls are conditioned to... gee... that's a bad word... girls are brought up by society to marry up.  and, so, there is this element that makes a girl seek financial security.  it costs a lot to start and maintain a family properly.

life and relationships are about compromises and we make do with what we have.  at least that is what i learned.

I'd date some1 earning less money than me - a little less though -  He shouldnt be too broke or poor though -and i wouldnt marry him if he earns less than me..Somehow i think money does always make a difference....

Girls, somewhere in the region of 99.9% of guys with a lot of cash tend to sleep around. It's that simple. If money matters more to you than that, then that's fine, if it doesn't then.... I don't think money should come into the way of content of character or intelligent or simply even love. Younger girls (I've noticed) seem to be slightly more materialistic. Later on in life it matters less; especially when the women have their own careers in place...

Ugly, pretty, it's all so subjective. I think my girls is the most beautiful girl in the world and I treat her like that. Other people might not think so but I do. You see, it seems we're talking about just dating of "seeing" someone. If you're looking for a partner, you expect more than just looks, you WANT more tham that! Compatibility, understand, romance, faith, trust. After you have gone through these things with someone, mere looks seem to fade away. In fact they become more irelevant the more you love someone.

gotta say even the Halle Berrys in this world get dumped, cheated on etc... so its got to be more then looks. I know there are a lot of shallow guys out there. But there are a lot of guys that are not shallow either esp when it comes to settling down with someone. U often see girls talking about their exes or someone they likes' partner and their saying or thinking " I look better then her...why did he dump me for her' and the answer to this question is simple- its not all about loooks for guys. It plays a lot- but personality does factor in a huge chunk (and ego stroking) & 'race' or social status.

Money does matter - b/c pple end up fighting b/c of it. but it shouldnt be the main concern. Its really rare that u see celebs going out with us common folk- the only way they do that is if  they were childhood sweethearts, or I gotta say this - for black men, if the girl is white (and even then she cant be white tr*sh, shes gotta be upper middle class), so perhaps its more about moving up "status wise" in the world - (white would be moving up b/c in American society black's at te bottom). Anyway realistically. most people in completely diff. social -economic classes end up fighting, like Jane Doe mentioned - its gotta be a little less.

99.9% of us in this forum right now I gurantee it, would look twice at a villager.

Someone once said that he'll believe in true love when he see's a young, rich lady go out with a poor old man...

The thing about dating rich guys is that some of them think that they can "buy" your feelings. They shower you with expensive gifts and they think that they are a walking and talking ATM.If they are planning on doing something and they don't want you around what do they do? Take out their wallet and then disappear for hours and sometimes days. They know that you are mad at them so they bring a gift when they finally decide to show up, with some feeble excuse and they expect you to forgive them just coz of some gift.

I once went out with a guy who did not earn more than me but was corrupt where he worked and so had more money than me. He would come and pick me up from my place and take me out and then we'd go to his place. He'd then buy a bottle of Amarula and fill the frigde up with food he knew i liked. He'd rent about 5 movies and sit with me for about 10 minutes. He would then tell me that he was juss going across the road to a friends and that would be the last i've seen of him that day. He'd be back about 6am the next day with the siliest of excuses i used to laugh. He reasoning was that i had everything i needed in the house and so i shouldn't complain. Needless to say that i got rid of him in record time.

So yeah i would date a guy who earned less than me just so long as they didn't take advantage of the situation and treated me like an ATM. I would also date a rich guy as long as they didn't treat me as if i was bought and paid for.

It's a no win situation really.
