Architecture faculty Head Prof. William Hill has said the development of any country depends on sound democracy and educated population. He said that Malawi needs EDUCATION FOR ALL if it is to develop. Qouted ' The higher ones 's education is more likely one to have substantial influence on the political deveolpment of the nation'
Turning on the University parallel programmes he had this to say ' It is fine as long as it is geared to offer higher education to the able and willing students but if the objective is to make money then there is a problem' He went on further to say if higher education is only accessed by those who have monies; then it means such education and political power will only be for the wealthy. If this happens, democracy becomes a mere dressing window. As reported in the Nation newspaper Tuesday Nov. 16 , 2004.
MY COMMENTS:
Looking at the parallel programmes, they are a welcome development to the academic circles. Why? It is enabling those that were left out for unknownnreasons into the varsity system to get the education. But it is also bad chifukwa mbuli zinalowa nawonso ku varsityko when they go to work they are a disgrace to intellectual community chifukwa their parents have the monies. Kodi munamvapo kuti a normal ndi parallel amayambana ku unversity? Komatu onse akuphunzira zinthu zimodzi by the same lecturers getting the material from the same books, same grades, funny. But what is the reason why the programmes were started? Osati ndalama ma lecturers zimachepa, kapena to supplement the budget of the varsity? Mwina kuti anthu asiye kunyozana a parallel akuti amabweresa ndalama zoyendesela varsity kudyesa a normal ndiiwowo pamene a normal akuti a parallel alibe nzeru. The govt. should build more universties and subsidize heavily the varsity education and close its ears to the IMF pleas of removing subsidies.
By the way chiteam chaku Nigeria (Enyimba) which walloped Bakili Bullets chafikatu mafinals a CAF Champions League.
