Fam Rejects Nyamilandu's degree
Permalink Closed

pips, I just wanted to let you in on wots happening at Fam as they are preparing to vote for a new president.

this is a quote from Tha Nation issue of 4th november, 2004.

" Fam Presidency candidate Walter Nyamilandu was surprised on tuesday when the association rejected his Bachelor of Social science degree as an educationa qualification for the post.

In an interview he said he sent a rep to go and present his degree to fam but was surprised when the soccer body rejected it.

"i have been informed that my degrre was sent back and that fam wants my MSCE, I think a degree is much higher than MSCE" Nyamilandu said.

one fam executive said that there were not against the degree but wanted MSCE coz some people use their BRothers' certificates.

FAM's constitution stipulates that members should hold MSCEor it's equivalent."

Just thought I should bring to your attention, in case there is a future hopeful in the crowd, don't produce your MBA or PhD. THEY strictly go for MSCE. Talk about following rules........

Campaign for Fam’s hot seat hits climax

by Leonard Sharra , 08 November 2004 - 11:14:24

The race for Fam’s hot seat on Sunday reached a climax in Central Region as some influential officials from two regional affiliates tried to woo other members to boycott a meeting arranged by the soccer body aimed at giving aspirants a chance to present their manifestos.
The officials, Central Region Football League (CRFL) general secretary Paul Mzungu and his Central Region Football Association (CRFA) counterpart James Mwenda went crazy after meeting one of the aspirants Walter Nyamilandu Friday evening.
“We have decided not to attend today’s (Sunday’s) meeting because Fam has not been transparent in the organisation of the meeting. As I am talking to you, Nyamilandu is in Blantyre. He says he was not told about today’s meeting. Another candidate Geoff Gondwe is out of the country and we have become suspicious of the whole process,” said Mzungu.
On his part Mwenda wondered why Fam chose to inform selected presidential candidates for Sunday’s meeting.
But spokesman for the Fam executive board McCollins Chibvunde dismissed the two members’ claims, saying all the presidential candidates were informed of Sunday’s meeting.
“The truth of the matter is that Nyamilandu wanted to meet affiliates members from Central Region on Friday and Northern Region members on Saturday before proceeding to Nkhata Bay.
“He is attending a tombstone unveiling ceremony in Nkhata Bay and could not make it to the meeting today (Sunday). Geoff Gondwe is in Zambia and he met Northern Region affiliates members last week. The members, who are claiming that other candidates were not told have hidden motives. As I am speaking to you members are flocking here and the meeting is definitely on,” said Chibvunde.
Chivunde expressed concern that Nyamilandu chose to meet the regional affiliates on his own, ignoring the programme set by Fam.
“We wanted the candidates to meet the affiliates at one sitting to avoid speculation. In the past some candidates have been bribing affiliates members and we did want this to happen again.”
Chivunde said that the Fam executive was not favouring any candidate and “we will welcome anyone who is going to win as our president.”
The only aspirants who were present during yesterday’s meeting were former Fam executive member Hastings Kapenuka and former Bakili Bullets and Flames’ coach Kelvin M’mangisa.
Kapenuka said he was not notified by Fam about the meeting and only learnt about yesterday’s meeting from the press.
Both Kapenuka and M’mangisa were also in the north with Nyamilandu the previous day. General secretaries for the Northern Region Football League and Northern Region Football Association Kaunga Nyirenda and Howell Msukwa confirmed that they met the three members.
“The playing field is now levelled because we have met the candidates. We met Gondwe last week before hosting the remaining three candidates yesterday (Saturday). We will now sit down as a region on Wednesday to strategise for the meeting (AGM),” said Nyirenda.
Both secretaries declined to give their assessments of the candidates’ presentations saying “every candidate has impressed in his own way and members have got different views.”
According to CRFA chairman Charles Kapichi, who attended on Sunday’s meeting, the Central Region affiliates will meet on Tuesday to strategise.
Meanwhile the Fam executive has apologised to Nyamilandu for the secretariat’s rejection of his Bachelors degree.
Chibvunde made the apology last Friday after meeting Nyamilandu in Lilongwe.
“I apologised to him after some consultations with the executive. It’s unfortunate that some people at the office did not understand the constitution.
The constitution requires a minimum educational qualification of MSCE but everybody wants to be associated with his highest qualifications,” said Chibvunde.
