Poverty alleviation programme was promised  but  there was more of kusolola in govt than alleviating the poverty itself.

The only people who would like this gap reduced are the poor and they are in no position to call the shots.  The poor will either cheat each other or will be cheated by the rich. In Africa politicains come through left , right and center making promises to the poor ( mpakana ndi gula nsapato ) in the West you have banks charging the life ( or what is left of the life ) out of the poor with bad credit. The truth about it  is that it is expensive to be poor and since more is never enough , the rich are busy getting more because they "need" it - absolutely no time to help the poor.

Reducing the Gap is a socialist concept and keep in mind there are only two more countries abiding to communism - Cuba and N.Korea ( China just cannot be included and we can argure this later ...if need be ) both of which are failing miserably in providing for their people.

as far as capitalism is concerned, it it practically impossible to close that gap whether its a poor country or a rich country. we should not be looking for ways to bridge the gap between the rich and poor, rather we shuold be looking for ways to empower the poor that they can indipendently feed, clothe and house themselves. these are the basic necessities from which we can move on to quality of life and the like.
we should not bother ourselves with thinking of ways how a poor man can get a mercedes so the gap has been closed, does he require it, is it a necessity or a luxury?

If the ecomic weather in a country is favourable, the rich  benefits more while a handful only from the poor changes positions, even the govnmts are busy supporting the rich to sustain tax base.

you are talking of supporting the nursery, a good plan but how to achieve since the dominance of old guards is oppressive.

Systems will never work. Blair said Africa is a scar to the world of development (something like that) he wanted to make it work for Africa in his own way but his stooges can not sit back and watch Africans bridging the gap. Likewise the president of Sierra Leone was being interviewed on the situation in Zimbabwe he denied having followed the stories happening btwn Zim and the rest of the world so he could not comment .
Now most of us i would take it have been working after toiling at school and promising ourselves a better future but where are we now? Bosses will never allow you to get within an inch of wealth the catchword will always be who will do the work. It all rests with our ability to see a chance and grasp it but with our mentality of "job security" it will never work, we see chances when they are gone and its the privileged ones who always get them. With the prohibitive bank interest rates and all teh jargon required for a loan what can you do to be self sustaining. My take is the govt has to set these parastatals in a course where they have to make it possible for individuals to excel, look at the housing issues timangopangabe rent from the big shots do we all have to go to UK to buy a house?
