The president on his lakeshore and Mzuzu rallies went beseck and announced that he will further reduce the subsidy prices that is going down below MK950.00 per 50kg bag.As much as it is good for our poor pipo I dont know if he is being fair wth our economy. You need to help me members to understand it well.Is he relying on tax or hipc.

Maybe he must have worked out something ,remember that guy said he never uses guess work when implementing economic policies and am sure he is up to something.

the chair has got cash, remember he went out shortly where unconfrmed reprts are saying he cashed from his foreign accounts about MK50000000.00.But the tricky thing is his slipped discs,he cant travel extensively and he doesnt trust anyone with his cash.so he is in it.

I'm more interested in what he DOES rather than what he claims to do.

The money is there,we have just had a debt relief from the World Bank and other lenders and the French have done the same just this week. This means that the money the government was going to use to service these loans will be used for others things like reducing domestic borrowing. Now,with prudence,I am sure and know we have a capable Finance Minister this will be done and other avenues of social spending will be identified and I am sure this is one of them.

Its not about getting at Atcheya, why get at him anyway as if he is gonna offer anything new?He was there and he failed to deliver, after failing with his bid for third term he gave us Bingu because he said he was an economic engineer, now what is he this time?Economy destroyer?A Malawi tikane!

Let's get back to basics fellow members. Agricultural subsidies to farmers by Bingus government has just been such a brilliant idea that has transformed the food shortages after poor harvests and droughts faced over the years into what we see as a surplus today, and should be encouraged at least for the time being. I mean there could be no any other reasons why Bingus government is necessitating subsidies on fertilizers. You know it as much as I do that inorganic fertilisers are responsible for much of the growth in the world’s agricultural production. Within our country , however, fertiliser consumption is very low and we need to realise traditions to encourage increased fertiliser use if only we wish to be food sufficient and drought-proof. Its not a secret that our soils suffer from declining fertility and increasing degradation and I thought you might agree to the view that increasing fertiliser subsidy in Malawi perhaps intensifies its use and would be beneficial. As a matter of fact these inorganic fertilisers as I said before will be vital for achieving food security and overcoming low agricultural productivity in our country. We are an agro-based economy and we have to lay down our priorities towards agriculture and we shouldnt be conned and start thinking we have an alternative source of revenue for running an effective government , not within the next hundred years. I believe we must all rally behind Bingus policies supporting subsidies to increase the availability of fertilisers in this country. Never mind where the funding is coming from .........there are lots of agricultural subsidies in the west today .......and why not us !!!

I don't have any problems with a wider reaching subsidy program as long as

1) there is accountantability on the part of beneficiaries, and
2) It's is created with the intention of ultimately creating self sufficient and competitive Malawian agricultural sector.

He is banking his hopes on the money which will come because of the debt cancellation. Our economy is so lean that reducing the price further will make it to crash.

as much as we need to empower our pipo we need to teach them to support the economy, the resrves in cash would do a better job in health and education. We have less rural hospitals and sec.schools, some cdss have no labs let alone books.

Pepani a humbwa, it wasnt my intetion only that when I posted for the first and second time, it says error meaning it didnt go and it went on my third attempt only to see the msg appearing three times. While it is true that I admire the gurus but I will wait patiently till my time comes not through short-cuts. I dont believe in short-cuts anyway, a short-cut is often a wrong cut.
