Often times we find a new thread is squashed as being not good enough for discussion or that it's boring, but then, isn't malawiana supposed to be a discussion forum for everyone? What we tend to overlook is the fact that people's thinking capablities and capacities are different and what i might see as a good topic might be rubbish to someone else but that doesnt mean kuti if i dont like it then i have to dissuade others. Ever wonder why anthu ena just read postings and stay ages on the arcade section? Intimidation and riducule hinders growth. .

Maybe someone should shed more light on what important discussions are.

Not responding to it is actually better than dissing the thread altogether. You find a topic which might have been sincere but get the person behind it torn to shreds just because someone thinks its rubbish. A good idea is to ignore that particular thread which you feel doesn't hold water to you and leave others who think it worthy to respond to.  Chonchi some folk dont even want to post anything here for fear of kunenedwa kuti opanda nzeru or something.

If it aint good enough for you then skip it.

Free speech without responsibility is no good. The other problem is, free speech cuts both ways. There aren't alot of individuals (in general and on this forum) that fully appreciate the fact and unfortunately, this almost certainly leads to hypocritical behaviour at some point.

I'm glad you've brought this up, YTP. Might I add that thinking capacity, etc aside, individual preference is what ultimately determines whether an individual will find an activity (or in this case, discussion) interesting or not.

As far as I know, the Malawiana forum wasn't set up for the discussion of specific issues. I think the variety this has resulted in is something to be celebrated; There aren't many places (actual or virtual) where I can test my political opinions one minute, be pointed to rare Malawian music and radio (or hot parties) the next, discuss investment and strategy afterwards, and finally hear some gloomy Malawian chick I probably know moan over some dude. Granted I don't participate in every discussion (In fact there is a good amount of material here that bores me to death) but at the end of the day, I don't, and we shouldn't expect every discusssion to be tailored to fit our individual tastes.

you can not just change your writing to please someone, and as said before views coming here are free to debate or not and it will not be automatic that your post will receive attention.Remember some news carry no news.

Am not against people not responding but its abit irking if one's posting is taken to be rubbish. Why not just ignore and not post on it at all if its not benefitting you in particular? Being silent on them 'nonsensical' issues will help others to come out and respond to them if those particular issues to them are interesting and worthy of a response. Thats what i mean. A good recent example is natasha's posting on guys opinions. Maybe there were some individuals who wanted to comment but after hearing some comments on this particular thread, dont wanna be branded with the same brush.
