The Govenment has announced that for the first time in history, Malawi will produce 3.1 million Metric tonnes of Maize and will  have a surplus of 1million.

With this surplus in mind the government has bought all the maize stock that belonged to admarc so that admarc will be able to buy more from farmers.

The government will increase its maize stock in line with its food security policy of having atleast enough maize that can last 2 years to feed the population if there is hanger.

Some  people with surpls maize will be given lincences to export their maize that was stocked last year .
At present the maize price continues to go down in areas around kasungu and MCHINJI  maize is going at K350 per 50kg bag .

With this in mind some maize silos are being built in Mangochi for the same cause.

estimates are not done by politicians, they are done by the government  through civil servants and to trash their findings is beyond argument. The problem is that some politicians tend to influence some decisions.

Gentlemen every year since whenever, the Ministry of Agriculture comes out to give crop esimates and there have alway been closer to or more than the actual outcome .I find it very disturbing for you to doubt these estimates. The guys who come up with these estimates are exparts in their field and Government will always know inadvance whether to start prepaing for Hunger or Not depending on their estimation .In the year where the outcome was poor  they have always come out and said so. So why should we  doubt their estimations  this time around?

Amalawi, we are so used to bad news that when we hear good news we tend to doubt. Let us get rid of the negativity and believe that we are indeed having a bumber yield chaka chino.

Government will allow only 800000 metric tonnes to be exported this year and it will strictly to those with a lincence .This is so inorder to allow Admarc buy more produce from the farmers.

exporting will be done after the rain seson and am sure if anything happens otherwise government will be in control of the situation is not that they will allow you to export just like that you have to meet a creteria that they want it is automatic that one is going to be allowed.
I will comment of the MET department when i get the report later.
