I believe we are obliged to signify our responsibilities and desist from being witnesses to such transparent falsification from these double faced idols with crocodile tears.

Aw come on. Our own African leaders with billions of dollars of stolen money cannot even build a bore-hole in a village let alone a school to educate their own citizens.

If anything she should be applauded because she really doesn't have to. She has absolutely NO obligation to build a school for anyone. She doesn't even have kids!

But look : This Oprahs thing is really not even worth an appreciation of good will to Africa  in relation to educating and helping the discriminated and disadvantaged. The right way to respond is just to ask, what are they really doing it for? Offering poor South African  "girls" a chance for a better future for sure? Yet to qualify for aplace at the school that poor girl has firstly to show academic and leadership potential and proove a monthly household income of no more than 50000 Rands ? Think of it , we have a purely defined speculation about how she chose RSA in the first place. And that is the result of very definite social policies that some of these celebrities are supporting. Well, you want to keep making all your money, but you dont want to face any of the rest of it , so you need some kind of a cover. And whats the cover Abres?...??/

Abres ,ever heard of Kamuzu Academy , Kasungu , Malawi? Well, stop mourning about African leadership in general.

Kamuzu Academy eh?

How many people can actually afford to go to there now?

Let us be honest. The reason why Oprah is doing it is hardly relevant when weighed against the benefits of giving an education to African children. Oprah is billionaire. She doesn't have ANYTHING to prove anymore! She is one of the richest people on the world. If she can give an education to 5 African children; that is 5 less than the government need to. And the quality of the education as well is beyond par.

Cover for what??? You seem to know everything. What do you reckon it is a "cover" for?

What social policies? You are as usual making so many unsubstantiated claims that you cannot back up with specifics!

At least Kamuzu Academy was enacted under impartiality for all the brainy Malawian children as well as of Africa as whole and you dont have to look for this evidence from the yellow pages. Its there right into your face . Abres , lots of children from households that couldnt even afford a standard life in Malawi have been educated at KA through bursary or student grants. Oprahs thing doesnt even come closer to what has been KA, the Eton of Africa. About the retention of its exellence and quality after Kamuzus era, ask Dr Bakili Muluzi.

And whats the cover, Abres? "Bad genes". Okay, once you understand whats really motivating all of this celebrity thing , then atleast you are in a position to deal with it. Dont ask me what I mean again. Look in the sky and think again,  you will understand what I mean. But these are such transparent ideological weapons we shudnt even waste our time arguing about them . Titaya nthawi chabe. I think we shud simply just understand them transparently for what they are:the product of a real commissar culture that is dedicated to obscuring the most elementary truths about this world, where we are crowded with the rich and powerful people trying to justify the fact that they are pursuing social policies (aims to make the world a better place to live) which are saving the discriminated poor people of this world. Some have adopted , some have adopted and failed, some wish they followed some odd-route and we shall see lots but we have to be smart enough to know why and how.

What on earth are you on about?

I asked you for a simple "motivation" and you are going on and on about irrelevant nonsense. Pursuing social policies? Can you specify what on earth you mean. If this was an essay you'll get a fail immediately.

Like I said earlier, you have made unsubstantiated claims that you are falling to back up with solid facts or evidence.

You are comparing Oprah's school to Kamuzu academy? Kamuzu Academy is history - at least to those who cannot afford it. Besides there is no school like that in SA that black people can afford to go to and Oprah is not even African so she hardly has an obligation to do anything for Africa. She can spend all her money on Jewellery and stuff like ALL other African rich folk do. If we value education then we all should be grateful to her for playing a part in helping to provide it for Africans. It is a future we cannot deny our children just because we think (stupidly) that there is some motive.

Dude you just need to stop smoking that ****t!

KA has to be the most ill-considered project ever undertaken, anywhere. While it's unlikely that it was set up as part of proper government policy (as opposed to HKB's whims), I wonder how much KA has achieved in serving the national interest? I've never been comfortable in thinking of it as a national icon, or rather, what it represents. I hesitate to hold it up as a great African achievement.

The bottom line is its for Africa, KA has started offering those scholarships again to the less privilledged but of course on merit but the system has changed from kulemba mayeso a KA to choosing the best out of some of the very best.

Abres , you easily lose it, and I was interested to see if fellow members were going to react on Oprahs trash, rather your post. You asked for an example of any African leadership reknown for provision of classical education standards , and there was KA. It wasnt my initial intention to compare them two but yuo asked for it. I said what I had to supporting my argument on Oprahs by simple evidence at hand as regards well versed social policies, the  convictions everyone wants to immitate. How do yuo understand language. And now yuo talk of me wa chamba....Achimwene I have smoked "wizard " all my life and am proud of it. If you havent tried and never liked it then you havent tried anything in life.

I dont see where  Abre has lost it because all he has done is to remind you that Oprah has no obligation to do anything in Africa, she does not owe any african child or country anything and she can decide to spend her money as she wishes and therefore when she uses that money to build a school in africa, she has to be applauded and rightly so.

You are putting away evidence that shows thats not true. You are not being honest to yourself and its not my duty to redefine what you consider be moral. I believe that failure to understand certain things which are as simple as this is another kind of disability.Even if twenty people insist something is wrong , anything that is rightly correct cuddled by one person is just.

Moral?whose morals?indeed as you rightly put it "failing to understand certain things which are simple as this is another kind of disability",I agree. Now which part dont you understand when we say Oprah has no obligation whatsoever to do what she has done?

Did you say failing to understand is a disability?are you registered?

What are you talking about? You have; as I expected, just completely escaped from giving evidence for any of your claims.

I asked a simple question about what Oprah's motives can possibly be other that altruism. You have not given any.

What exactly do you mean by "well versed social policies". Can you explain?

All she has done (and thank you Ngwazi for attempting to explain it AGAIN to this poor fellow who doesn't seem to be getting it) is build a school to educate African children. She is not African and doesn't have to.

All we really should be doing is thanking her for her generosity. That's it. She could close it tomorrow and no one would even have the right to say anything.

I am still waiting for a single example of what can possibly be wrong with it.

From observation, our brother here keeps on cutting his nose to spite his face. I have read so many postings where he contradicts himself despite being informed otherwise. Maybe its the language or the new year fever!

Admitting to being wrong is something some of us dont as we feel we might be considered worthless.

Now how about that disability registration?
