In this age of freedom of worship one can not help but to notice the mush rooming of new Churches and denominations some with impronounceable names and ACRONYMS. I guess some naive people would look at this as a sign of increased sense of piety and religious morality on the part of many Malawians. However if you really dig into the real motive behind the many churhes coming into this country you will simply uncover a web of greed, deceit, and blasphemy. How can you explain a pastor telling his flock to pay a little something so that the same pastor can pray for their earthly prosperity and personal wellbeing? How do you explain a church that insists that it can pray for people to become rich or it can make you get promoted at work? I really think religion has lost direction in Malawi. This together with the fact that people no longer fear God but rather now fear their fellow man ("akulu ampingo angandione ndiri pa mowa odi ndimwere kuseliku")has made religion in Malawi a game of cat and mouse. And the other funny thing is that sermons in our many churches have now become gossip sessions where pastors take swipes other denominations (" A church icho heee akapsa onse amangodzivuta kulibwino asiye")
Its a real shame that most of these churches perhaps unknowingly put money first before Jesus or God . The Pastors will judge your faith by what you contribute to the church and at least half of the sermon is dedicated to money and the blessings you get when you donate to the church. No wonder pastor Bonke was told to leave Malawi when the then government of Dr Banda realised that he was reaping Malawians off. The likes of Hinn are stinking rich i.e. own private jets, fleet of cars, Tv stations and have millions of dollars in their accounts but if you tune in to their TV programs be assured that they will ask you to donate so that you can get Gods blessings or be healed. why cant they just bless you without asking you to donate? And you find some poor souls falling into this trap even though the can hardly afford. Malawians start helping your poor relatives back home instead of making these rich pastors even richer.
The High Court in Blantyre on Friday granted an injunction to Apostle Felix Zalimba, giving him the go-head to use the Katoto Freedom Park in Mzuzu for a gospel crusade, in the process barring Living Waters Church founder Apostle Stanley Ndovie from using the same venue at the same time. High Court Judge Healey Potani also ordered the Mzuzu City Assembly not to refuse Zalimba permission to use Katoto Freedom Park for a crusade from September 2 to 5. Living Waters Church was expected to use the same venue for a ‘Time of Power’ crusade from August 31 to September 5 this year. In his affidavit, Zalimba’s lawyer Webster Mzunga, a partner in Lawlords & Company, said Mzuzu City Assembly approved his client’s application to use Katoto Freedom Park for gospel crusade through a letter dated June 2 this year. Mzunga also said before his application to use the ground, Zalimba went to Mzuzu and formed a Miracle Gospel Crusade committee to facilitate the smooth running of the crusade. He said Mzuzu Living Waters church was also represented during the formation of that committee. He argued that the conduct of Mzuzu Living Waters Church and Pastor K. Kalagho was suspect and has an element of bad faith because the Living Waters Church was aware of Zalimba’s gospel crusade back in May this year. “The first defendant [Mzuzu City Assembly] was wrong in that it acted on information from a third party who had no mandate on the issue to cancel Apostle Zalimba’s booking. In fact, the first defendant should have consulted the person who got permission before the cancellation,” said Mzunga. Mzunga said his client sought the injunction because a lot of people would be going to the venue expecting to hear his preaching only to find different preachers which would have negative repercussions on the reputation of Zalimba and his All For Jesus Church. Zalimba also argues that stopping his crusade would inconvenience invited guests from abroad who have already made travel arrangements to attend the crusade.
