Please help me understand this issue of crossing the floor. According to my opinion it is ridiculous to declare that all the MPs in the UDF crossed the floor, since they found themselves in the opposition side after the President who they voted for dumped them. The issue is crystal clear, Bingu attained Presidency on UDF ticket, and a few months later contravened the Law by dumping them. Isn’t it ideal that they impeached the President first to get the right answer to the controversy? If found guilty then it means the Mps did not cross the floor by not joining the backstabbers party and if found not guilty then it means the UDF MPs crossed the floor by remaining in their party. I think all the turn coats should be given a chance to return to their respective parties to avoid the unnecessary waste of funds by conducting the elections. even if they do we still have Bingu and his lustful desire of power to blame .My point is where did all this start?

Which law did he contravene by the way? He contravened no law! The constitution is silent on the issue!
How and where did it start? - A political mistake or rather a blunder was made by ATCHEYA himself by imposing Bingu as UDF candidate against all the other player's wishes (thats where it started). he did that not as a strategy to win the elections, nope! but for selfish reasons like to continously rule from the back and in so doing he could blanket himself from prosection to the already known, open and hidden graft cases - he was wrong! Bingu had other ideas, firstly he wasnt yellow at heart (he didnt believe in the ideologies of UDF), secondly he had to win the confidence of the electrolate and that of donor community as such he had to cut ties with ATCHEYA and UDF!!
Coming to the issue of section 65 - i as one dont believe an elected MP who won on a particular party ticket should dump his or her party and join another. its purely cheating on electrolates! i mean, how do you justify that? i aint that cheap as to be used by these unprincipled MP's. To us guys who had at one time or another voted for an MP in the constituency of residency did so on the strength of a particular party (with deep consideration and conviction on their leadership, ideologies and manifestos), but not because of an individual aspiring MP. To those who crossed the floor, thier seats should be declared vacant - period! the laws are clear.
However, i find it strange and very puzzled as to the basis for the call by DPP and DR Ntaba that all UDF MP's should be deemed to have crossed the floor. yes, the president did not contravene any written law by dumping UDF, but at the same time those MP's who remained behind UDF did not contravene any law by remaining behind either! because they faced the voters on the UDF ticket. maybe if DR Ntaba and his DPP should have been asking the speaker to declare seats of independents MP's who moved and joined UDF vacant, but not bonafide UDF MP's
Yes to declaration of section 65 by speaker - why should the section not be implemented? others have expressed fears that our economy cannot hold by elections of such margin (not that they dont acknowledge or accept this law). i say no because im very much informed that this years burget is encompassed with this. i understand there is a provision of 1 billion kwacha pertaining to local govt elections and subsquent by elections. what MEC should do is to hold these concurrently thereby cutting down on costs.
These guys think that they can play around with us (voters). They went there lying that we agreed with the idea of dumping their Party and join the ruling Party. They must be booted from the august house forthwith.

BlackMoses, the issue i'm replying to was posted a while ago, you might have changed your veiws since then but i have to say that you seem to be contradicting yourself by condoning the president's ditching of the party that ushered him into power at the same time you are antagonistic to the mp's that left their parties or joined other parties. which is the lesser crime? to betray a nation or a constituency.
