Nyamirandu rejected

by Zainah Liwanda, 22 November 2006 - 07:07:20

The Public Appointments Committee (Pac) of Parliament on Tuesday rejected David Nyamirandu who President Bingu wa Mutharika recently nominated to take over from Ishmael Wadi as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), according to unofficial reports.
Four members of Pac who attended Nyamirandu’s interview at Capital Hotel in Lilongwe on Tuesday confided in The Nation that the DPP-designate was, among others reasons, rejected because he holds an Australian citizenship and was not willing to renounce it.
But Pac chair Joseph Njobvuyalema, speaking soon after the interviews, refused to say whether or not Nyamirandu was confirmed, saying his committee would communicate their recommendations to the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) by yesterday evening.
“He is an Australian citizen and the committee gave him the opportunity to say whether he is willing to renounce that and revert to his Malawian citizenship, but he refused.
“He said he has family connections in Australia and was about to influence government to accept duo citizenship,” said a Pac member who sought anonymity.
The source said Nyamirandu told the committee that he has been in the country for two years and holds a permanent resident permit.
According to the member, the committee felt that Nyamirandu does not have any interest in Malawi, arguing that during the two years he has been in the country he would have reverted to his original nationality

Bravo PAC!

Ones duty for the homeland must be done with ones full heart!

This Lomwe president of ours is loosing it, does he do his homework before making these appointments? Am starting to doubt his integrity. Who is around him helping him out, the kaunjika guys are out maybe he has some gambas from the chimulenga war who are misleading him. Now he will start saying PAC is trying to frustrate his govt.

His trusted Press Officer has already started saying that (frustrating the Govt). besides Nyamilandu does not want to renounce his other citizenship, yet he expects malawians to trust him with such high office? atleast for once im convinced PAC has objectively rejected a candidate!!

Have you guys noted how fast for once the govt played in replacing Nyamilandu after his rejection before PAC with another nominee in Wezi Kayira?
