This is mainly for those who dont believe in religion and witchcraft, what comes to your mind when people celebrate halloween on 31 October? The story so far is about the Celts but has spread to other nations with the same belief and i know that's when we have spooky costumes and all that celebrations.
Or are you going to say it's just one of those myths as well?
Of course they are myths, and I couldn’t waste my precious time doing that mumbo jumbo. I have seen quite a few Africans who have started adopting this meangless tradition. I bet you every-one on this forum would abstain from this except Abre!

And you pray to Allah 5 times a day facing Mecca is not a "meaningless tradition"?

Tradition of course is the illusion of permanence. Halloween has a pagan ritual background. Well, so does Christmas with its snowmen and father Christmas and reindeers. But does "pagan" equal to evil? Of course not. One might as well say that African tradition is evil too. As our moral ethics evolve we begin to see things differently.
What is witchcraft anyway? I bet most of the members of this forum would swear that they have encountered it in some shape or form. But these are just claims. At the end of the day, witchcraft is as ineffectual as its adversary... It might exist as a movement or sub-cult, but spells and curses don't really do anything...
Who doesn't believe in xmas? If you don't then why do you get so worked up if you dont prepare yourself for the season? Maybe you just go in with the sheep factor, huh?
Ndati ndifunseko, Alibe mphini ndani???? Maybe you've forgotten how as a young chap you were slashed abit and applied black powder to chase evil spirits??? Why deny this when i know that am gonna see the evidence on your back???!!!! And what does that tell you? We dont have to prove about witchcraft cos it's been tackled a thousand times before but, just this once, we can go back to it.
Then tell me it's all a myth??? I am having financial breakthrough right now and i believe it's because i've prayed and believed.
Good things happen to me all the time because I work hard. But I don't pray. In fact even if I prayed to my shoe my prayers would be answered with the exact same success rate. You should be thankful to yourself and your abilities, nothing else.
Millions of poor people pray but nothing happens to them. God's will right...? It is conceited to actually believe that some God intercedes on your behalf as opposed to the other billions of people on earth. Children dying and suffering. Although of course prayer never changes the laws of nature). Coming to think of it, neither does witchcraft or any of your supernatural stuff.
How seemingly educated adults cans still hold all this laughable, ridiculous superstition is always a surprise to me.

Am not working right now but money is coming in. Not school funds or stuff like that and i dont even know where the next lot is coming from. Yes am thankful to myself for having strong faith in God and nothing else.
The reference to the shoe is not the first time you've put down here and is it presumptious of me to take it that you've prayed before and it never worked out for you? I know you are cynical now but one tends to wonder........
It wont be so laughable when you get into it and you witness. I dont blame you for not believing cos it takes so little to disillusion a person but when it happens, one doesn't need to tell you about it cos it's right in your face.
I'm sure there are lots of people in the world who don't work and get money somehow. To insist that a God is manipulating circumstances on your behalf by simple virtue of you spending a few hours praying is slightly presumptuous, even fatuous when one looks at the entirely of it. And I'm sure there is a totally rational explanation behind it. I suppose if something goes wrong you'll resolve that by saying it was God's will too right?
You say it takes so little to delusion a person. That's my exact point. The fact that life is made up of a series of random events and coincidences that seems to be out of our control is the reason why prayer is so universal. Prayer helps to compartmentalise all the anxieties of life. By personifying them we relieve ourselves of the responsibility of seeking closure - which is a trait of human intelligence. We attribute things simply to a god and move on. It stops further enquiry. If God does things then we don't need to do much. What a lame way of seeing the world?
Your very point highlights what I'm talking about. The fact that you are in vulnerable situation is what seems to be leading you to more prayer and comfort-seeking. I know it must be comforting to be able to personify your present angst. It isn't unwise to do so don't get me wrong. But the fact that something makes one feel good doesn't make it factually right or rational.
Besides this topic was about witchcraft and Halloween, wasn't it?
If i was in a vulnerable position i wouldn't come up here, openning myself to mockery and riducule but it's because i chose to be where i am as i know what i want and how to get it.
My bad, so it was scepticism. Coulda fooled me!!! You are right though, it's about halloween.
There is a difference between cynicism and scepticism. As long as I can remember I've always known that religion and prayer and all those things were just misguided superstition. I never really understood why people subjected themselves to them. Thankfully as an adult I have been able to give voice and credence to these thoughts.
Trust me, I grew up in a country where superstition is rife. There is talk of witchcraft everywhere, I have, or had, family members accusing themselves of being witches and all that rubbish. You ask anyone if they have ever actually seen solid proof of witchcraft and you get the most vague answers.
I don't think you have any fear of ridicule on this forum if you profess faith (except of course from me). You and I are aware that everyone member here is religious in some way, other deeply so...

I know that it's only you who comes crushing after my faith is witnessed here but it's not news no more. My point was on showing my vulnerability right here as we always read unbecoming insults and comments from some members who are so hurt by the truth and their only response is to hit below the belt. (like when your mom, sis, bro are all insulted for no apparent reason.)
Shaks!!!! Did i state that you cant differenciate btwn being cynical and sceptical? So astute of you and........ i take it back.
We have our own opinions On God and witchcraft so let's agree to differ on this one.
Well, don't we always. I mean agree to disagree. That's what adults do right. I'm not trying to "crush" your faith. I'm only stating the obvious about the weaknesses of what we take for granted namely religion and faith.
But I guess everyone knows that on this forum already. As for witchcraft.... C'mon!!!
YTP wrote: Aww please!!!!! You always amaze me but by jove, am not gonna go back to that. Let's do as your first line states, eh?!
Hey, you are the one who makes claims about witchcraft. And when I ask for more evidence who get oddly vague and evasive. If you demanded evidence for a claim I made, I would give it to you. If I said something like "we'll agree to disagree" you'll probably think I was too sure about myself. There is a reason why witchcraft is not accepted as evidence in court.

And my so called claims are true but right now i dont have evidence. There's no way am gonna get vague about it cos it's as clear as daylight to me. I wish you hadn't vouched to have given evidence in all your statements cos i read one of yours posts last night and you had no evidence to submit on that particular issue.
You should actually know better than me cosi think you've been to areas where witchcraft is common.
Abre, i wouldn't think you are too sure of yourself if you said something like that but i would know precisely what you meant.

Yeah, carpentry was considered about the same as interior designer in Christ's time. Not that I have proof of it.
On the other hand, I AM out to offend Christians. Their superstitions and self-righteousness is positively nauseating to me. It offends me too. I think it is well within my rights to show the ridiculousness of it all.
Of course you have just completely left out the fact that that post was meant to be sarcastic and was answer to something else....
How original!
What is your proof of witchcraft? It is just a question. Either you have witnessed it personally or not. My post was about a historical opinion of society some 2000 years ago, my question is about witchcraft NOWADAYS.
