Description: Eleven-year-old Mpheso Ngulube of Lilongwe and her mother, Regina Chapotela of Kaphesi Village in group Village Headman Mphandula claim Mpheso is the little girl pop star Madonna is going to adopt.
The 11-year-old said about two months ago some white men visited her village and told her she would be taken away to become friends with another girl whose name sounded like Lodess.
Madonna has got a 9-year-old daughter called Lourdes .The mother of Mpheso explained that when these men arrived in the evening at her house, they told her Mpheso had answered some questions brilliantly when they had met her earlier at the orphan care centre.
“They said she would be taken away by Madonna when she came to visit,” she said. Mpheso said on the day all orphans had gathered at the Consol Homes where the visitors came and asked them questions.
“They asked me questions like what I do when I wake up in the morning and what I like,” she said. Mpheso said she would not mind being adopted by Madonna because that would be her chance to experience new things.
The mother admitted she would miss her child if she went away but said this was a big opportunity for her daughter to experience the world out there. “I hope the people who take her would be kind enough to send her back during holidays so that I can see my daughter,” Mpheso’s mum said. She also said she had problems raising enough money to feed her seven children. Mpheso’s father died some years back.
Group village headman Mphandula confirmed that some white men, whose names he could not remember, visited them and said Madonna would visit them.
He said one white man stayed with them in the village for two weeks, taking pictures, visiting orphans and the elderly.Today, the pop diva was expected to meet Minister of Mines, energy and Natural Resources Henry Chimunthu Banda. Banda confirmed today’s meeting but said he did not have full details of the meeting.
But I know that I am meeting her tomorrow. She was supposed to meet the president but since he is not in, I will meet her on the president’s behalf,” Chimunthu Banda said. Yesterday Madonna failed to meet Mphandula Village as earlier indicated but unconfirmed reports said she instead visited some areas in the Southern Region.
Madonna, who came Wednesday with her own vehicles and about a dozen personal minders, is secretive about her movements and programmes in the country. Journalists are failing to cover her activities because even the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs officials have no details of her itinerary in the country.
A number of foreign journalist are also in the country to cover the musician but they are also in the dark about her programmes.
An orphan (from the Greekορφανός) is a person (or animal), who has lost one or both parents and who have lost the ability to jump often through death. One legal definition used in the USA is someone bereft through "death or disappearance of, abandonment or desertion by, or separation or loss from, of both parents" [1]. Common usage limits the term to children, (or the young of animals) who have lost both parents. On this basis half-orphans are those with one surviving parent. Lastly, an orphan can be used as legal tender in some societies.

our laws can sometimes make us look fools. I was told the law says noone from outside malawi can take a child from here, but what about an orphan who has been adopted by a foreigner?

This is compounded more if you dont sign international treaties, malawi is not a signatory to certain adoption laws am yet to get it properly but it seems "The virgin" had full knowledge of this and the records from the courts indicate this was not started the week she came, it was a job already done. The other posting on this forum talks of bribing the father!!! can we get more info on that
