MWA is glad to announce that its conducting a BOOK DRIVE for the University of Malawi.
Currently, a lot of the most recent books are on reserve at the libraries and many students can't afford to buy text books. The library system last updated all there book in the 1980's and so have a limited supply of recent material. As you can imagine, more recent material are in high demand at the libraries.
Presently, internet access is also limited until a new fiber optics system will come in effect in 3 years, which will make more recent information accessible via internet to more students and the academic community in Malawi.
We are asking for you assistance by helping collecting books which are going to be donated to UNIMA. Although academic books are the primary focus of this drive, we will also accept other types of reading material.
Please ask you friends, families, churches, and work places if they have books. If you are currently in college/university. This would be an ideal time for you to get involved with MWA and UNIMA as well.
This drive is not limited to people in the DC area. If you arrange for books to be shipped or driven (those in close by states that come to the DC area), this is also a viable option. You can ship it to us and we will pass it along.
If you dont have books, some libraries sell books once they get a more current version, usually at a special corner or in the basement (both colleges and public) - $10 could get you 10 text books.
(if you are unable to open either of these documents, please go to the MWA webpage - click on the MWAOnline section, and access it from there)
If you are able to collect names and addresses of organizations or individuals that make a significant contribution, please forward those to us, so that we can send them a thank you letter.
