Oh c'mon, cut the crap, nigga just got voted into gov, and how the hell ya'all except him to fly overseas to perform during independence celebrations and dump his constituency during his 1st term & people check yer country's news, parliament is just about to convene.  May be those other folks, Mlaka Whatchama-call-him. Atl guys 'ope you  won't stoop so low like that lying to p'ple that Bright Nkhata is coming cos dude expired.

Tsibweni, stop dissing Atl, cos you know better why you couldn't survive here.  So should we say that Bend is also too expensive a place to stay cos word is that Old lady and kids have to seek shelter at Bro's place.  Be a man for once and zip up your mouth before your foot got stuck in it.

PEACE OUT!!!!

Make all the noise you want but we will not stoop that low of dissing so that your point can be heard. Why don't you take an extra effort and find out who is sponsoring the singers to come to the USA? We all have a choice to live where we want to live. Its not like if like in ATL then you are special or anything like that. Last time I checked you didn' need a visa to go and live in NY or ATL its all a matter of choice and other factors. This is America , men.

Musician Parliamentarians promise change

by Peter Makossah and Chisomo Kachapila, 28 May 2004 - 13:06:08

Music, since time immemorial, has played an important role in the history of Malawi and elsewhere. Not only has the music provided good entertainment, it has also expressed how people feel about life.
It would, probably, be right to say music is the only language in the world that everybody understands and perhaps that is why four of the country’s topnotch musicians decided to fight their way into Parliament to address issues that affect the development of music and artists in the country.
The singers — Lucius Banda, Billy Kaunda and Aaron Sangala — won the UDF, NDA and RP seats, respectively, in the just ended Parliamentary race. Reggae star Frank Kalonde (PPM), however, lost the race to an MCP candidate.
Politics and music can help promote culture and welfare of artists, especially in the country, but the questions is; what does these MPs have to offer to Malawians? Will they be able to juggle the two roles which are both demanding?
While admitting it is an extra challenge, Banda says he can handle the two and according to him, it’s just a matter proper planning and good organisation.
“There will be time for Parliament and time for music. Constituency issues will be dealt with in Balaka where the band is based and over the weekends, I will be doing my shows. As for composing, I can compose songs everywhere even in Parliament,” he says.
He says he has a mission for his constituents. He intends to build a minimum of 40 bore-holes before the end of his term.
Banda, who christened himself ‘Soldier’, says he will continue to sing about society ills but not against state because he will have direct access to those in government and can therefore go to them directly instead of passing a message through music.
“I will no longer produce songs that criticise government because I am in the system. I am no longer someone who is just standing on the platform without knowing whether or not my message is heard. I’m still a soldier but I will be fighting my battles closer to the target , now I will fight directly in Parliament,” he says, adding that as an MP, he would only solve communal and not individual problems.
Besides, Banda says he would like to fight for the welfare of musicians/artists and also promote culture, claiming that the Ministry of Sports, Youth and Culture concentrates on sports.
“Mostly our issues are not heard... I want them (Ministry of Youth) to start paying attention to the arts in general,” he says.
But Banda expresses some fears on how he would manage to live up to the expectations of the people that voted him into power.
“I am nervous, I have to live up to the people’s expectation. I am frightened and I am happy to be frightened because I don’t want to take for granted the people who voted for me,” he says, adding that he will behave responsibly because he realises the dignity of the office.
On the other hand, Kaunda says he will continue to fight government’s ill both in Parliament and through his music.
“There are some issues that I can present in Parliament and others that I can’t. If some issues are not heard, why not sing about them,” says Kaunda, adding that he brings a clean record to Parliament.
Kaunda, who calls himself the ‘Minister of the poor’, also says that he will continue with his live performances and hopes to go into Parliament to change the way people think about musicians.
“We want government and other stakeholders to recognise not only musicians but other artists as well....We will fight for laws that will help build music and art in the country,” says Kaunda, who has made free recording offers to choirs in his constituency which lack funds to record their music.
In agreement, Sangala, a jazz music teacher at French Cultural Centre and elder brother to the Kaphirintiya stars, says he will also lobby for the betterment of the music industry by fighting for laws that will help create a conducive environment for musicians and artists.

Sungani man, so is your clip saying anything 'bout the MP's trip to US, and about dissing it's not a matter of places where you stay but what Tsibweni (unless it's you) talks about ATL.

PEACE OUT!!!!

Kumudelera Lucious banda kuti sangakhale wandale kuti chani?
Iweyo popeza by expressing a political opinion you are being political.Question is do you have what it takes to partake in the discourse in the manner you propose to?
The cardinal principle of democracy is that rule is premised on the consent of the governed. In the case at hand Lucious banda happened to have been elected in a duly democratic process.Who are you to question the clout of his constituents?
Bwino nazotu osamangodelera anthu apa!

Guys,

I met Lucius and had a chat with him. He confirmed he has been invited but he told me he is not goin to make it because he  has been told to by the organisers that he has to source transport funds himself whilst the organisers will take care of the accomodation and related expenses in the US which he finds unworkable.

Issue was in the weekend paper as well and in the paper they indicated the other musicians apart from Lucius are still trying to raise funds for their travel.

A soure from a local travel agent told me bookings were made but no payments have been made and the musicians are trying to get Bwana Muluzi to finance them kaya zitheka kaya!

Just thought you guys should know.
