Bingu on tuesday lashed at importation of labour by some companies in malawi. It is disheartening to see this happening on expense of Malawian qualified personnel who can fill the positions ,he said.He has therefore said he will soon put in place a clear and comprehensive policy on expartriate employment. Is malawi ready? Is the move by Bingu in the right direction?I need your inputs.

It all in the detail. I hope the policy adopted doesn't turn out to be a simplistic, protectionist tool that starts and ends with immigration matters. It should guide other planning issues at a more holistic level, like the active importation of skills lacking in the local workforce, as well as self sufficiency planning. Although a lot of coordination and commitment would be required across the whole government for this to work, a set of policies along those lines would benefit the country far more than simply 'carpet bombing' non-Malawian workers with immigration rules.
