Why we are sinking so low?

In reference to the posting below I need to say that, we are sinking because we arent swimming.


The offspring of person who wrote that post will most likely die off in the next coming generations. This world is about survivial of the fitest and unfortunately those that do not learn how to survive - to swim - die off.
One reason that Malawi is one of the poorest countires unfortunatley, is b/c Malawians
are too wrapped in "what will the neigbors think" if I marry so and so and with morality that should not really have a say... what the neighbor thinks about people marrying azungus etc...doesnt matter b/c in all reality, the neighbor will die off.


Non-Malawians of all sorts have been surviving better for yrs whilest some of us want to pray that our nation gets better or pray that they will win the green card lottery. Has it helped?
Non-Malwians have been doing it for yrs - how many Asian Malawians have British Passports - Their parents left the country in the 70s so they could give birth and they still raised the kids in Malawi (they wertent thinking its morally wrong to screw with the British Govt). This is something that Malawians are only starting to realise right now... Nigerians Marry their cousins sister etc...b/c after all. Its about survivial and the fittest will swim.



  1. Marriage is a social contract and a religious one. Signing papers with someone is not a mortal sin and doesnt have to be seen as one.
  2. Sex doesnt have to even be invovlved.
  3. Borders and nationalities are also social and not religious. And so you break a social law. so what ? At least your kids wil live beyond age 35 (avg expectancy in Malawi)
  4. Malawians in general are not risk takers,and unfortunatley, our main religion, Christianity, has been taught to us as a pacifist religion, and teaches us to take a beating. but we are taking death with that.
  5. The author assumes that Malawians that marry azungus or akatahs do it only for the papers. Which is not true. Its not only about visas. Yes, Virginia, there is such a thing called Love.
  6. A lot of people want to marry people with similar goals and backgrounds, education etc... In most areas , Malawian females are doing it for themselves school wise, there are also more females out here then males, so if they are looking for someone, the chances of them looking outside of the community are high... and so they will end up marrying non-malawians.
  7. In my opinion we have been screwed around so much in history that I really dont think it should matter, its our turn to do the screwing. Im not saying be gutless or ruthless, but damn , when are we ever gonna get ours?

We do need to see the world in the wider scope of things though...This why our country is dieying off. Like Malcolm X said "By Any mean necesary" ... In some places people who marry for the visas would be looked on as 'clever' and smart. In Malawian terms they are immmoral. Its all how you look at things. If the author of the post was non-Mlawian he may have said 'how are yuou malawians in the US, swimming  so high?

One can always rely on you for your consistency and reasoning more than anything else even if I don't agree with all you say you make some accurate points and observations.


The reasons however why Malawians are like that is more of the Kamuzu effect and less of the christian one. Take for instance Nigerians - the most corrupt and smart (in terms of survival) people in the world. Also the most relgious too. They have learnt to reconcile both. Kamuzu went a long way to keep the country subservient. Malawians are too passive and ignorant and stubbornly so. When you try to tell them like it is they ridicule you - when they should be opening their minds to learning from you.


The author of that post was more ignorant than anything else.


Everytime I go to Malawi I find my friends exactly the way they were when I left. Doing the exact same things. And what do they do? They come together to ridicule me about living in England and doing odd jobs etc. Well, those odd jobs paid for my education thanks very much! Least I can afford to pay my bills, buy good clothes and travel there once a year to see their asses!

Kamuza was a reason, because dictators dont like having people with independant thought as subjects! Christianity though historically, has been used to pacify the masses so they dont fight back. I see your point about Nigerians, arent they 40 % muslim though ? So anyways, they also believe is juju a lot , but like you said they have reconciled both. Malawians havent, were just starting to swim. honesty is a good thing but it looks like Malawians are in the habit of practicing alturism, we suffer and die so that honesty can live...


Your exp about going to back to Malawi is interesting. People would rather sit and do nothing, have nothing. Mostly live off their parents. Then work at a gas station and have money. interesting mentality. Even if your donig odd jobs Abre , its a stepping stone. but if that was ur entire life... so be it.. we judge too much  sometimes.


But honestly , the author was ignorant - but I need to say that


When the colonilists came down to Africa and taught us Jesus, and Killed us, and Maimed , raped, murdered, and broke us down. Where was there morality then... So, my msg to Malawians would be to go get yours ...
