Probably for the first time I can remember in my adult life (except over war victims images) I was actually physically sick seeing those pictures and reading about the petty political wrangling going on in parliament.
My question is how many lawyers actually graduate a year in Malawi?
You mean to tell me that the lawyers we do have in Malawi cannot do 1 pro bona or is it pro bono(i get confussed) case a day? It might not be much but it would help someone somewhere in Malawi.
Look at that picure my friends. It reminds me of the pictures i've seen in books about how slaves lived in the boat's that tranported them from Africa to the west. This should not be happening in this day and age. It's unthinkable. Malawi might be a poor country but if it can afford to send the President, his wife and a few minions to Scotland for a week for God knows wot then there must be something that they can do about the prisons and hosptitals and all other public interests. It might not be much but it will help in someway.
LOOK AT THE PICTURE AND THINK!

my first thought when i saw that picture was that it was a late review of AMISTAD.why does this have to happen in the 21 st ****ury?and in our beloved homeland of all the places?mark me wrong,i blame it on 'greedy politics',our so called leaders dont know how to set their priorities right.instead of discussing and implementing methods of helping an ordinary citizen, they argue about 'leadership' and corruption,of which we all know they have a hand in!!i strongly think parliament in our contry is a bloody waste of money!how many bills benefeting an ordinary malawian have been passed since the inaguration of the new president?
What our country needs are people who are willing to work for change for an ordinary citizen, and then be rightfully rewarded.the situation will always be the same if the 'recycled'politicians are still there.THEY LOVE THEIR BANK ACCOUNTS MORE THAN THEIR COUNTRY.shame.

I have seen the pictures they didnt shock me for I have always known that the situation in Malawi is not as the priviledged middle class malawians here on this forum think. This is a good way to make the people aware of the situation in their country. Just because you live in Blantyre or Lilongwe, have a satelite dish, go to private schools, have food on the table, it doesnt mean that every malawian is living like this. People forget that it is a very very tiny small minority that are living like this. Unfortunately the politicians seems to serve this very tiny minority. We all know that Politicians are liars but what makes Malawian politicians evil is that they enrich themselves with money that should have been used to improve or even to save some local malawians life.
I read recently in the paper here about the wife of the Malawian president going on a shopping spree in one of the most exclusive shops in Edinburg while her Husband was there to beg for money. They ofcourse denied this but what message does this send to the world. How about the impeachement issue while millions of Malawians are facing starvation the politicians cant put aside their differences and try to work together for the sake of Malawi. They are spending more money and time on this issue instead of trying to find ways to use the little food or resources they have to save lives.

to be honest,i was so sickened at the pictures it makes me wonder whether people are sent to jail to rehabilitate or torture them.how do we expect people to change when they are living in such conditions, its like a modern day concentration camp, human rights abuse at its acme.this only proves how the government has failed us again, these people are really taking a mick, they are busy squabbling and finger pointing when innocent malawians are languishing in prisons and villages.
slowly malawi is sleep walking into a terror dome with the failing economy showing no signs of improving, people being chucked in prisons like bags of potatoes, politictians spending large sums of government money on personal lavish lifestyles when starvation has reached breaking point.their ignorance and negligence is plunging the country into anarchy and lawlessness, our beautiful country is now a no go zone,we really need to call for desperate measures to keep any dream for change otherwise the situation is now uncontrollable.

I totally agree with you. One has to wonder what happens to the prisoners. Because overcrowding some of them are probably set free to create space for others meaning they will be walking up and down the streets without being properly rehabilitated. This creates a very scarely picture for Malawi. The future doesnt look promising. What we are seing now is probably just the beginning of the hard times ahead for Malawians. All this thanx to the selfish malawian politicians that we have.

This is a crying shame! It is kind of a tough situation though. Does one pitty the prisoners or the general public. Prison is not supposed to be a heaven guys. Those guys are not in for nothing..well, looks like in Malawi..one is guilty till proven innocent. Do not get me wrong, I feel sorry for the prisoners but I feel more sorry for people in the streets and villages who do not have food.
i concure, but if people are sent to jails to sleep on top of each other like a morgue is as good as approving death pernaty, there is a miscarriage of human rights in our prisons, the prison sector has in its power to protect and rehabilitate inmates within a human rights jurisdiction and with those pictures i dont see that in practice.
its clear to me that our government has violated and overstepped its boundaries in carrying out human rights activities in our prisons,i know there are millions of people in villages dying of hunger because of the economic turmoil that has engulfed our country right now,but with a bad human rights record the donor community will ignore any plea for food and monetary donations.
the politics of witch hunting is costing the government loads of money because they are busy erasing their tracks instead of serving the people who voted for them.muluzi failed us,and Bingu has done more damage in his two years because he is busy looking over his shoulder.those pictures lifts up his skirt and exposes his true sex to those who thought of him as a political messiah.

Good news indeed JRC, I wish we Malawians who are well educated had good pistons to drive our country.See how doctors run away for greener pastures leaving our bro and sisters dying from malaria, see how lawyers are busy defending Buluzi who for 10years squandered the resources which would have gone to prisons. These people are suffering becoz of you and me,instead of us being pillars we are pillows.
Lets restructure our visions, lets build Malawi
