Books by african authors

In our English book club here we recently read a book called Skyline by Patricia Schonstein Pinnock.  Its a book about a young girl in Capetown living in a run down block of flats with a lot of immigrants from Rwanda, Sudan and mozambican refugees all escaping the ruins of war in the peace of the new South Africa.

All the members of the book club have never been to Africa.  They know Africa through reading and the media. This was probably what they expect of Africa.  They all liked the book and some want to teach it as a literature book at the university.  I on the other hand thought that the book was too negative it portrayed Africa as a continent with a lot violence.

If you have read this book i would be happy if you could give me your review.  I would also be happy if malawiana could recommend a book by an african author about Africa that is more positive, that i can recommend to our book club.
