country folks

why is it that there is so much chaos and pondermonium on this forum than that of malawi parliament?do people ever take this forum seriously or its just used as a ring for intellectuall sparing?do you think Bingu knows this forum exists at all?

when will our leader ever recognise the talent being cultivated on this forum, seriously i think we do have constructive and meaningfull motions on this forum than our parliament.if we stop finger pointings for a tic and focus on one objective without biting each other's heads off,we can surely make a change in malawi.i would like to take this opportunity to appeal to all members, let us join hands and drill holes in the ceiling of disunity, for malawi needs us.our country needs us.

Ayatollah, lock up your arsenal and swallow the key,Abre, close your venomous mouth.game, close your intellectuall armoury,Ngwazi, stand up and administer the change.let us be citizens of a higher place, let the word of Raz na piza spark the brain of a revolutionary in all of us.let us bury the hatchet and make amends for the sake of mother malawi.

You see I started reading your post with great interest. It sounded, profound, insightful and even revolutionary. They of course I got to the point where you advice me to "shut my venomous mouth". At that point your credibility (with me at least) was totally undermined and I refused to take you seriously.

Why we need to listen to you stating the obvious like it was some new discovery beats me. It sounds awfully patronising/irritaing to call for "unity". The truth is, as far as I'm concerned, no one on this forum are actual enemies. Same as in any parliament. Opposition doesn't mean enemity....

Why am I even trying to explain to you?

raz na piza i see you are also new here.  I presume you were an observer before you became a member, just like me.  I think that they are actually no enermies as such here but its just a few intellectual  members who want to show off who is brighter than the other.  They also want to show how articulate they can use the English language.  To read some of their posts one cant help but now and then to consult a dictionary. (Funny i am also a member on the BBC board but there i dont use a dictionary).  Yet they are part of the reasons that i have joined this forum.

sorry sir,

i know you would have liked to be called the intelligentia in my earlier posting, but abre,i have been a keen observer before i ventured into participating,i do admire your guts,i feel a little big headed from being a spectator to a participator, something must have triggered me to join the elite team of this forum.

sorry for  i did not mean to upset you sir,but regardless of your defence for sure there has been a little artication between your camp and camp ayatollah, although the latter seems to have many aliases than bin laden having many identities,i stand to be corrected but some arguements reach boiling points where i can sense you sir sweating and fuming at your keyboard.

i called for unity amongst forum members because am trying to mobilise a large team of spitfires like you sir, game, and ngwazi to help me bring change in our parliament.just imagin if we can take out Billy kaunda and bring in you, lucius banda for ngwazi, lillian patel for game and jon tembo for Ayatollah.i challenge you that malawi can have the most effective legistrature in central africa, because the wishes of the masses can be implemented forth with.

lastly can we start reaching an agreement on issues of national concern, instead of non stop bickerings and finger pointings, can we find solutions to problems because in so doing, this will not be just any other forum but a force to reckon with.please let us not dump our intellectuall capabilities to waste but rather effectively put them to good use.let us make kamuzu, the great john chilembwe, dunduzu and yatuta proud,of our generation.

viva malawi viva.

thanks for the advise sir,but i still have a problem,i want to get this forum up and running without anyone thinking its a take over,in this world that we live in we are all entitled to our opinions and it is through these opinions that our characters are judged and misjudged,a community without a difference of opinion is nothing but a house without a central pillar.

in this forum there are left wings and right wings, thats why some topics always end up in a heated arguement, but if we unite for a common course,we will be able to understand each other on an intellectual level, and this will always captivate the interests of some out side forces like our president for example,we really need to live a mark in the debating realm by producing first class personas.we need to create role models out of this thing,we need to expand by appealing to the people who do not even have access to the internet.

some might ask how we can achieve all this, the answer is simple,we need to create a budget, make this forum an economic centre point in some way,we need to create a tongue lashing fearsome force that will criticise and condemn our government without giving them any altenative.once we've made clear our objectives, corruption and all misdemeanos comitted by our politictians will be halted.malawi will once again start rebuilding its financial bridges with the international market.and our economy will fluorish.

Your ideas, even as profound as they sound are a little bit over-ambitious for this forum. I mean, budgets and stuff? I for one live in London and have a lot of other priorities to handle that are a lot more important to me than the economy of Malawi. I might have ideas of how I think things should be in Malawi but I don't live there, pay taxes there and I probably think of it less than than a few times a week. It's easy to sit and type about how to revolutionise Malawi but there is a government and parliament there and that is what they were voted in for; it is their responsibility and I hate to be patronising toward them.

This is just a discussion forum and if we are to go further a start a kind of pressure group we need to be in the country in question, You know, on the ground. How many people in MW actually visit this site?

ok ok,

calm down sir,a little hyper ventilation will only suffocate you,we dont need that do we?as i said dont try to cut off my air pipe because of my so called over ambitious ideas, these are just ideas as you say,you can actuate them or not,as long as it is convinient for you sir.

now listen,if you was an eagle in the air,and you see some merciless killing of other birds on the ground, would you sit back and enjoy the show or you would move in to help your species sir,it dont matter how confortable you are sir but sometimes you need to give your friends some cover as they go in,thats unity in its pure form.on this forum we are all patriots in our on ways you cant deny that sir as i have been reading your posts, lets use the american way, attack from the air without setting foot on the ground,we can still have devastating out comes to corruption,as this acts like a vampire sulking the economies blood slowly till it loses its fighting power.

you know what sir,i knew i would meet opposition from you,but i guarantee you i will succeed,as the saying goes,a shoe is tighter on the other foot, every where you go,you will find people trying to make a name for themselves by just sitting down,i want to make a name by moving even if it means an inch,i will get there.my priorities are right, and the people of malawi can behold their destiny whether you cover me or not am going in.

Abre, the gentleman has a point but it has come on a wrong place,Raz you will not advance to any inch, firstly you have hidden your name secondly how many people access the net in mw? And do you think we have money to flash around organisations let alone this anonymous forum.

pope.

firstly let me ask you if you ever read the papers, did you come across the article on how brit aid has been munched in malawi by our administration, that was in the news of the world.almost £700.000  fell in the wrong hands again, and yet Bingu's stance to curb corruption is being publicly praised, this money did not even go to the allocated people, the poor sir, they ordered new office equipment while the poor starve, when will the government ever prioritise the plight of local people?

this is where this forum comes in,lets make the noise untill they open the door, remember written word is more lethal than spoken word.once these people feel the pinch and the ouch they will feel our presence,it takes one effective media outlet to destroy a disunited confideration, thats why i appeal to all of you my fellow members,to march in single file for this dangerous operation, its not a fantasy believe me we can overcome.

am not calling for an intellectual exodus to the motherland, but rather a guerilla strategy to depose these corrupt officials in our government.we demand for an immediate recognition by our leaders,we want  the people of malawi to get their share of the purse instead of a few greedy individuals.if you dont share my dream of a better malawi i dont blame you,all i want,is to mobilise a patriotic front that will dump corruption into the dust bin of history.we dont want to be a stupid generation that will start crying when things have already gone amiss.we do not want mockery do we?

We ALL know about corruption in Malawi and how the west praises what advances their interests and condemns what doesn't. And no matter how much noise we make on this forum it is a private anonymous place in the sea of millions of other websites and forums. What we discuss here usually stays here, and rightfully should. If we learn a thing or two, the better. All debate can be helpful to formualte ideas that can be articulated elsewhere.

sir

so what you are saying is,corruption in malawi is an uncurable illness, now my friend so you know that the deeper we go with this the deeper the urge to revolutionise this forum.i am a peace maker,i wont get offended if you attack me in any way, because people on this forum always decapitate each other's throats when they fail to constantly sustain a debate.mine is just an innocent appeal to only those who believe in change.

i really want to build a viable environment for our children, and i have my eyes on the trophy of economical development in malawi, whether you join me or not one man's reluctance is his own weakness, you can not always wait for other people to pave way for you,i leave behind that backward tendency and move forward,am sick and tired of being a laughing stock and my country being a dumping ground for already used materials.its time we bring in the A team, and that team will come from this forum.

It seems like you're egging me on to attack you. I really have no idea what you're on about.

I believe in everything you talk about and yes, it sounds profound and insightful. But, one can have the dream but do you have the drive?

It seems as if you're preaching to the converted. We here all agree with the problems MW faces and the cures. Nothing new about that...

Raz,corruption in Malawi was like nsima in Malawi.Up to date even opposition leaders are being corrupted to vote against a bill or for.Secondly the fight can be waged here and we can make noise but is Wadi patronising this site and how can we know we are heard. You have good ideas and facts but the vessel in Mw to carry such ideas is leaking and Bingu is busy trying to fix the many holes that the pressure is creating. One day we will come out of this mess but we need political will, non partisan politics,we need politicians who will put the national interest first and this revolution should start in parties, govt, national assembly, and no more recycled politicians. And this fight can only be waged in malawi. And listen for good, whether you are innocent or not we don't care and noone is agaist your ideas but we are saying they may not work and why pursuing.

For your information there is a corruption scandal in todays papers in mw.The gvt gave a treadle pump contract to  a ghost company and MK30m was involved 18000 pumps not delivered, the acb is dozing. And when Bingu wants to arrest the corrupt they threaten to impeach him, come on Raz, so what can we do,the only thing is to discuss about them. For the British pounds which went into the drain,we need to verify    during which reign.

ok sir,

what are you trying to tell us,do you support the motion sir or not?and pope my friend, the reason the ACB is dozing would not be far from fear,in malawi transparrency is still in the incubator,we need to make it hatch,so that the ACB can operate freely without fear.

and how do you expect the acb to be transparent when its completely engulfed by corrupt officials,as far as we are concerned its a toothless dog,its there just to serve the boss not the masses,if these people had the attitude of this forum malawi would be a better place, because everyone on this forum knows his rights and can exercise his or her freedom without fear,we do have our freedom of thought,we need to inject that into the minds of some stupid and dull politictians we have in malawi.

let democracy reign,do not let someone who got elected to treat malawi like his monarch,no.if we wanted a kingdom we would look for the remaining of karonga mazizi,we elect our leaders to serve us not to manipulate us.we want leadership that will implement our wishes.poverty is not a difficult obstacle to surmount,it takes good accountability and tranparency thats what we want.so please people follow me.

And what about western corruption that keeps us exploited. The corruption that makes us pay intrests on loans that we didn't need in the first place but they coerced us into. Money that could and should be spent on health and education. Invested in the public sector to provide jobs and services.

What about that huh? The fact that our chief cash crop tobacco is increasingly been phased out like a dangerous narcotic and we are not replacing it quickly enough with something else because foreign markets dictate it so. The fact that the World bank encouraged the sale of our maize in storage to service our debt and now we are about to starve - the result, more debt.

Our leaders are corrupt because there is hardly any other way out. The entire system is corrupt. Democracy is not good enough for us. It isn't working well enough for us like it should.

Do we really want to change it? Do we have the commitment it takes, the self-sacrifice, the courage. Nothing short of total revolution would change Africa.

Didn't the white men leave Africa decades ago? Then if that's true why do we even entertain their diagnosis of our problems and the cures. Problems that they caused and continue to cause in the first place? I say more Mugabes.

Abre you seem to think that the west are  to blame for problems that Africa is facing now, many years after colonialism.  You even write, I qoute our leaders are corrupt because their is hadly any other way out.  Oh no dont make excuses for them  they are corrupt because they practice the african policy of keeping it all to themselves.  Using their position to enrich themselves as fast as possible.

And lets not go to Mugabe.  He is a totaly different issue.

Even though you have an idea of the fate of bad decisions made by African leaders, I'm Afraid you don't have much knowledge of international affairs and policies. How they come together and create the environment for corrupt leaders to function. How foreign companies bribe government officials to get local contracts. How the west propped up any anti-communist dictator just to prevent the Russians from operating there - Kamuzu, Mabuto. Even starting civil wars that devastated entire regions of Africa. Mozambique, Congo, Angola - to name a few. I mean who the hell do you think supplied all those arms in Mozambique all those years?

I cannot even begin to tell you of how the World Bank & IMF conspire to ruin the already fledging economies of African countries by debt repayments. How globalisation has left in its wake economies that are even worse off than before. How the west put quotas on our exports but force us to accept their cheap goods. How they subsidise their farmers and kill out competition from us....

No my dear. The west love corrupt African leaders. They made them. Paid them. Oh and one more thing.... There is more corruption in the American system than all African countries combined. When you begin to see this, you'll get a bigger picture.

As HS Truman said of one dictator - don't remember where. He's a sonofabitch! But He's our sonofabitch!

To blame the civil wars that took place in most African countries entirely on the west would totaly be out of propotion. They are partly to blame but so are these people in these war-torn regions. I know that a lot of companies in the west benefited from these wars they sold weapons and bought diamonds for ridiculous prices. They prolonged the wars but they didnt force these people to fight against one another. The conditions were already there they just took advantange of it.
You say there is more corruption in the American system than all of Africa combined. Corruption can be looked at in different ways it has different meanings. Africas corruption is a different corruption. Its mainly misuse of position for personal gain. Africa's corruption is extreme its every where from the small officer on the street to the big boss.
I give an example of different types of corruption in this fictitious story. There once was two ministers one in Asia and the other in Africa. Money by some organisation was a located to them to build roads. The one in Asia gave his cousin the contract to build roads. The one in Africa gave his sister the contract. After a year the organisation went to see what had been done with there money. In Asia they were greeted by nice well built tarred roads. When they approached the ministers house they found one mercedes benz parked outside a big house which looked like most of the houses in the neighbour hood. They then went to Africa. There they were greeted by a gravel road. Unsure of themselves they decided to go to the ministers house. There they were greeted by a mansion with three mercedes parked outside.
May be the west has contributed a lot to our problems but where do we stand on this. Are we always going to play the victim all the time. When are we going to take responsibility for our actions and admit that we are also partly to blame.

You really have no idea if international politics do you. You are just assuming. And please don't use ficticious stories to verify your point. We are intellectual here (at least I think we are) and require actual concrete evidence.

Now, we know that during the west's scramble for Africa it was divided in nation states without regard of the people, tribes or cultures. Take for instance Nigeria. Ac outry of 247 tribes and languages. 247! More languages than Europe and Asia put together. Now compare that to Europe. What would happen if you made Europe one country and gave all the oil and natural gas to the Germans. Knowing European history we can attain that the results would be devastating.

Now you see why there's war in Africa. Don't get me started about the arms industries in the US and UK than lobby government to start wars or promote them so that they can make a profit (in Africa such practices are called corruption).

Even the idea of "corrupt dictator" as a desciption of a bad ruler only applies to anti-western leaders. Believe me, there are hundreds of "think tanks" in Washington that are creating scenarios to keep Africa the way it is. Africa has the most returns per investment that anywhere on earth. That's why they'll like to keep it that way. We don't need to "play" victims, we ARE victims.

I am not assuming, i know for a fact that these things happen. I dont have to give names its right there for one to see. I used that fictitious story because i know that not a very-one who reads this forum is like you an intellect. It takes some people time to grasp what one is trying to say. It doesnt mean that they are stupid, it just means that they have a slower mind than others. One just has to find a way to get them to understand the concept. A story that they can relate to is a perfect way to do this.

There have always been wars in Africa even before the white men came to Africa. We just have to go back to the time of Shaka zulu, Mzilikazi.
I for one refuse to put the blame on Africa's problem's entirely on the west. I continue to believe that we play a major role in what is happening in our countries.

dont you guys also forget, we come from a third world country meaning poverty will always persist one way or another.and when it comes to presidential elections, and our presidential candidates, everyone wants a piece of the pie when elected.and when they are, first thing they do is better their own lives and that of their relatives.i mean come on,imagine ure living the underprevileged life, with jesus sandals on ur feet, chasing after sheep and cattle and one day u think u can make a differnce in peoples lives and lead a country like malawi, and as soon as ure president, u look back at ur life and theres no way in hell ure gonna go back there, so then the corruption starts. i dont even need to explain.

lets take the U.S. FOR EXAMPLE, see how almost all candidates have a rich comfortable life and are university graduates, dont get me wrong im not saying a poor guy cant govern a country but it does help if ure already living the high life.

Can you belive that BINGU is still considering buying that maybach, not 1 but 2.

SOME THINGS WILL NEVER CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even though I am not blaming the problems on the west entirely you have to understand how international forces shape countries, including Malawi. From trade to debt. When you understand to the workings of Malawi govt in relation to the IMF and World Bank, you might get a bigger picture on who really messes up who.

I can't begin to lecture you about it but when you've read up on it we can continue this conversation.

Abre i dont need lectures from you. I dont write things without reading or having any knowledge about the subject that i am talking about. Reading is good and i do it because i like it. Just because i like reading doesnt make me a greater person.

I think that everyone has got something important to say. I agree with you on the fact that the west is to blame on some of Africas problems but what i disagree with you is the fact that you refuse to see, that we africans are also very much to blame for our situation. You see Africa as the victim of the west i dont see it that way. You are entitled to your own opinion so am i. That doesnt mean that you are clever, or better informed than i am it just means that we see things differently. Just because i dont see the west as entirely to blame for our situation it doesnt mean i am stupid or naive it just means i disagree with you. You probably have to learn that your opinion is not always the right opinion. And dont try to impose your ideas on other people.

You see Nali what you don't understand is that I'm not giving an opinion, I'm giving a fact. At one time I used to think like you. Blame everything on Africa and "African" mentality (whatever that is). Till I grew up and realised that everywhere people are just the same. We think alike all over the world. By your thinking you are taking the view that Africans are a sub-species of people. That they are somehow less intelligent than white folk so consequently they can't rise above their problems. They are bound to create more and because they are inheritently corrupt by nature they can't prosper, create goventments and spend their money fighting each other.

I say you are dead wrong and a disgrace to Malawi if you think like that. You are part of the problem not the solution. It goes to show you have absolutely no idea of how politics works. Or to a lesser extent international relations not to mention world history (beyond of course the biased version of pro-western ideology)

Wake up and smell the coffee.

Abre you are putting words into my mouth. You are assuming that, the fact that i said that Africa is also partly to blame for its situation, then i think that we africans are not good enough, corrupt by nature ect. You have put me in asituation where i find i have to defend myself. A simple debate you have turned it into a racial issue. By criticising Africa all of a sudden i have turned into someone who thinks that africans are not good enough. Are you trying to tell me that Africa is beyond criticism. You victimise yourself by being so sensitive every time someone criticise Africa. If they are black then they think we are not good enough, if they are white they are racist.
You might have thought that way, i dont. All you have to do is go back to all my posts on this forum and judge for yourself.
