I am new here. I must say since i found out about malawiana.net it brought me some nostalgic feeling. It reminded me of a nation that was once the warm heart of Africa, avery proud nation, we were unique. Now we have become one of the many poor countries in Africa. How about bringing pride to the locals. How about sports. How about promoting sports just the same as education. Encouraging and motivating the youth to pursue their goals. I am tired of people telling me you have to have a PHD to be someone. I was never good in school, i was an average student. I was very good at playing Tennis though but i was told there is no future in Tennis. Dont you guys think that they are some young malawians out there who are not good in school but have some natural talents who just needs the facilities and support from the government. If our neighbour mozambique can produce an olympic gold medal so can we. Promoting sports will keep the youth away from crime.

i feel you brother,oh oh,you might be a sister, still more i feel you.we malawians, have been brought up to beleive that for one to make it in the real world, you must be a doctor, accountant, lawyer or i t consultant(kinda new).listen to'THEY SCHOOLS'by dead prez, and you will understand that it comes from far.there are alot of talented malawians out there who are yet to be discovered(if lucky),some will go down without having a chance to show what they are capable of(shame).all i can say to all aspiring, gifted and talented malawians is that'impossible is nothing',i know some home boys who are about to surface big time in u.k and u.s.a,the field i aint saying till i have their conset.good luck country man!
Welcome Nali, I get where you are comming from. The world has got to a point that you have to have some kind of education. As much as i wanna say that education is not the only way to make it in life it stands out as a key to most success.
I will use an example of an athlete, it tends to be a very short career and you have to have plans of what you gonna do after retirement. Unfortunately most kids that i went to school with and had soccer talent threw their studies out of the window. Some of them made it but most of them are paying for it as we speak.
I personally think that its all about having a whole system that can accommodate and balance both education and extra curricular talents.
I have always belived that education is important coz it teaches us how to spend money and not make money. Its not about what you do but rather how much you bring in legaly and morally.
As a nation we need to retain the best in all fields from sports to scholars. This might be a way of raising the bar.
I am not saying education is not important but iam trying to say that not every one is good at it. How many students pass MSCE every year. Not all these students will have achance to go to university. What becomes of them. In Malawi if you are an average student it is just not good enough. How about those who dont pass MSCE there is absolutely no future for them. Unfortunately these are the majority. Just like in education not every one becomes a doctor the same with sport not every one will become successful like Tiger Woods. The problem with sports in our country is that the youngsters dont have sport malawian heros someone to aspire to, so even if they have the talent we all think its impossible for one from Malawi to make.

I agree with u Sepu. I think it would be a very good idea if our country promoted extra curricular activities. I always watch the olympic openings to see if Malawi is there I see them during the Countries Intro but i never here about them again. It would be nice to see some wonderful talent in our Country. Music is ma thing and i know i have the talent in that, and i would like to see some serious Malawian musicians rising up. Zambians are producing some serious music even the ones here in the USA. They dont sing just because they have a studio and the money to produce there cd's but they have the talent. I am yet to see that from the Malawians here in the US. As much as extra curricular we also need education. Just because u have a talent doesnt mean u stop school. They're alot of talented pple who are not recognized today. IF u cant make it like MJ at least u have something to fall back on but remember MJ was in school thats how his talent was recognized. Education is very important whether u make or not, but i would like to see some talent come out of Malawi.
So watch out for my album ya'll I will let u know when it comes out. I dont know if abre would listen to it though cuz its Gospel, but u can just buy it for the support........peace

Ha ha. Yes, I'll buy it. I mean, if it has good music qualities.
I believe education is practically the ONLY way forward for Africa. To compete with the rest of the world MW needs to invest heavily on education. Further education is absolutely important but it really isn't the quantity but the quality of the education. The reason why people like Tiger Woods exist in western coiuntries is because they already have massively educated people; scientists, engineers, inventors doctors, lawyers - even 'though you never hear about them, they are THE most important people in society. They make the economies what they are. Not the Tiger Woods or P Diddys.
The people who built America or Germany are the educated classes.
Yes, we need musicians, athletes, but what good are they when we don't have enough doctors to treat sick people.
with all due respect, education is the key to success,it also leads to the destruction of man kind, oil in earlth spills, global warming and climate change all these are a result of mans discovery of intelligence,he embalked on a journey, wrecking havoc to the world and resources at his disposal.
we learn what the white man wants us to learn, lets go back to the cave man era, where we made fire by two sticks rubbing together, our fore fathers were not bothered with powergen knocking on their doors with the gas bill.education is the untold oppression of the mind, the white man imposed it on us so he can monitor our every move, education existed long before the white man came to africa,we had the great scientist in malawi called m'bona, the only human being to ever vanish in thin air.
we had the rain dance, prayer to chisumphi, and rain would fall,do we ever aske ourselves how our fore fathers managed to survive three thousand years before,he changed our way of life, told us where to **** and how to.we had pit latrines way back untill the white man with his stupid mind came and said no,you have to **** in water so it can be flashed.look at gule wankulu,oh what a beauty, thats rich culture right there, but the white man calls it archaic and primitive.he wants you to dance to r'n'b.
Abre los ojos hola como estas? I agree with you about education being africas way out of poverty. Its not about quantity its about quality. Unfortunately our quality of education is not good enough. I have lived in USA, in many countries in Europe, 4yrs in fact in Germany, some parts of south america( Chile, Brazil, Argentina). In Germany they have a lot of educated people they have engineers, lawyers, doctors you name it they have it. But they have also alot of people who never finished their highschool education. It takes brains and hard work for acountry to succeed. You just have to look at Germany acountry that lost the 2nd world war, every thing was destroyed then, the country was occupied. They had to start from scratch how did they do it a country with only its people as natural resources. Their morale was down yet they went on to become the richest country in Europe surpassing England. You are right we must not forget education, but so must we also not forget sports, music, acting, handiwork or handicraft. Those who dont make it in school needs to have aback up plan and say i did this at school am good at it, work hard, lots of discipline, and i can make a career out of it.
raz na piza those days of cave man are over we have to live in the present. We musnt always blame the white man for our problems. We bring it upon ourselves look at our politicians all of them greedy they want it all for themselves. They sent their kids overseas to study or to work that shows that they themselves dont have faith in the country. Its easier for us to say this must be done, we left the country forgodsake. How about those who cant afford to leave what about them. I hear that the situation has gotten worse the poor have become poorer, the quality of education is much worse than it was in 1994. When i talk to my family or friends on the phone they all want to leave the country that is definitely not healthy.
