listen ladies and gentlemen I have been 'n Istanbul for a long time now but every time I tell poeple am from Malawi they really get confused that they do not know this poor land of ours any way what surprise me is that 99 percent of those pple tend to know zambia mozambique and even tanzania and this makes me very uncomfortable in the places where am in company with ma buddies from these countries .I havent yet met with somebody who knows where malawi is. what about you who are in uk and usa.why not malawi cuz of its smallness or what/ enlighten me buddies.
Very true. I also work with a lot of people from different parts of the world and most of them don't seem to know the motherland. They know Mozambique (coz of te war maybe) and South Africa. abale, tatiyeni tigulitse dziko lathu.
Really fellas, you really want an answer to that question... The question should be "why Malawi"? The truth is don't let your love for country cloud you from the truth that it is one of the poorest, most insignificant country on earth (in strictly monetary terms of course). It's tiny, has a population of about 12 million, many of whom have never travelled outside southern Africa.
Unless you have an avid interest in the region, you won't have ever heard of MW. Why should you have?
not all well known countries are rich as you put it,look at jamaica or nigeria its about the people not how much oil the country produces,if malawians excelled in something like football we would be known all over the world, nigerians are known for white collar crimes and jamaicans are known for reggae music and dreadlocks, what are we known for?poverty maybe but thats a non issue brazil is so poor in the american region but because they have the world cup in their silverware we all know them.
whats poverty got to do with fame?people will tell you they know rwanda because of the mass genocide and uganda because of idi amin and aids, next time try to bring forward constructive counter facts, remember not all people think the way you perceive them.

PARTLY TRUE. NIGERIA IS REALLY KNOWN BECAUSE IT HAS MONEY. THERE IS OR WAS A VERY LARGE MIDDLE-CLASS AS A RESULT OF THE OIL THAT WAS DISCOVERED IN THE 60S. THEY TRAVELLED THE WORLD AND SETTLED EVERWHERE. THE WHITE-COLLAR CRIME IS A NEW PHENOMENON - SINCE THE 80S.
JAMAICANS TOO TRAVELLED A LOT FROM THE 50S - TO THE UK TO FILL IN THE GAPS LEFT OUT POST WWII, THAT WAY THEY CREATED WEALTH AND A POPULAR CULTURE.
BRAZIL HAS THE BIGGEST ECONOMY IN SOUTH-AMERICA.
AS FOR RWANDA YES, I AGREE. UGANDA - IDI AMIN MAYBE. BUT DON'T FORGET THE REASON IDI AMIN BECAME A WORLD-WIDE CHARACTER WAS AFTER HE EXPELLED THE ASIAN MIDDLE-CLASS POPULATION THAT CONSEQUENTLY MADE IT AN INTERNATIONAL ISSUE BY FORCING IT INTO THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE.
SO ARE YOU IMPLYING THAT MALAWI SHOULD WIN A WORLD CUP OR HAVE SOME GENOCIDE TO BE TAKEN SERIOULSY?
you pple, are you worried with that? i feel you should be proud... malawi is not 'known' coz its got no fame attached. the reasons of course are 'nice'.
mozambique is known coz of the 14yr civil war.
zambia? possibly coz of the historical kwacha devaluation.
zimbabwe: chimurenga war and now the big 'mugabe aka hitler fame'
south africa: apartheid and mandela.
swaziland: polygamy
now your malawi: kamuzu four cornerstone theory was popular nationaly, not beyond borders. hope you guys understand. next time you hear that, smile-:)
I don't think you know what you're talking about, or maybe I don't understand. Try this for size. MW needs tourism revenue and if no one knows its there then how are they going to visit it? Or trade with it? Or do anything with it? And the reasons you gave for why those countries are known are wrong.
The world is more than your own narrow view. And what the hell do the four cornerstones have anything to do with it?
