Yeah I like quotes too, especially the home grown ones you know, keeping the 'Best Buy Malawian' spirit going! Check out the following attachment that I got in one of those forwarded emails.
People often quote Abraham Lincoln, John F Kennedy, Thomas Jefferson or, in general, American presidents. Is it because it is in fashion? Look, we have beautiful quotations from our own presidents, past and present:
1) To say my days are numbered signifies nothing. They always were and so are they for us all. - Hastings Kamuzu Banda, founding president of the Republic Malawi in a letter to Wadson Bini Deleza, July 1994. He died on 25 November of the same year.
2) Muli mphonongolo bii. Fotseki! Ndimadya pakhomo panu? – Bakili Muluzi, second president of the Republic of Malawi, at a public rally when he was criticized by Father Constantine Kaswaya, then Chairman of the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) for misusing public resources in fighting for the third term.
3) Anybody can write a letter to me and write on the envelope "Bingu wa Mutharika, Africa," it will find me. - Bingu wa Mutharika, president of the Republic of Malawi, addressing students from the Mzuzu University, at a luncheon organized at the Zomba State House. The luncheon took place immediately he met Muluzi, his predecessor, which led to conclusions that at the meeting of the two it is possible that Muluzi accused Bingu of seeking fame in prosecuting UDF cadres.
4) I have come to talk with you, not to talk to you. - Bingu wa Mutharika, president of the Republic of Malawi, addressing students of the Chancellor College, the University of Malawi.
5) If I gave you an orange, I would say, take this orange, I am giving it to you. But if a lawyer gave you the same orange, he would say: I hereby pass title of this orange to you with all its rind, pulp, juice, seeds, with all powers to bite, peel, grind, masticate, chew, swallow, suck . .. - Matthews Chikaonda, former Minister of Finance, presenting his budget Living Within Our Means. He was trying to stress that donor countries tie a lot of strings to their aid.
You said something about quoting US president but for all its worth George Bush just takes the biscuit. The best quotes of this century have come out of his mouth. I positively cringe everytime he opens his mouth and he ain't even my president.
I feel for all you lot that live in America, I really do...
Actually, those were not my own words, they were part of the attachment and I just copied and pasted as is. About our very wise President, we all know we can write so many books on him alone. Still he is the President of the most powerful nation of today’s times so he must be somehow smart plus how do you explain getting re-elected into Office amid the chaos that has embroiled the world due to his administration’s bad international policy, lack of empathy for other nations and selfish Ideologies.
America is a complex nation. More so post 911. I mean remember they voted for Reagan...Twice! Nixon? Eisenhower?
Bush is in bed with big business, it really doesn't matter whether he has brains or not, the political networks in the US are structured in a way that makes him simply a puppet. In this present administration, Cheney is the real boss. Followed by the Rumsfelds. They have been around since Nixon. They, are the real influence.
Lets not forget the power of the media in the US. It is really a land-locked country in that respect. Most folks don't know or even care about what their country gets to abroad. I mean Americans still believe that Saddam Hussien was behind 911. For the most powerful country in the world, they are very naive when in comes to outside their borders. They don't even know who the leader of Canada is.
Remember Bush didn't even know who the president of Pakistan and other countries was when he was campaigning the first time around. He REALLY is stupid. You can't fake that kind of ignorance.
I hate this regime so much for the damage they are doing to the world. I was at least partial to the US till they came along. Now I consciously boycott American goods. Except of course Jazz; which I think is God...(so much for an atheist like myself).
There is a book called Bushisms ... it has all the dumb things bush said, Bushims 2 , has the rest... soon , with an additional term for Bush, they will have so many versions it will out number Police Academy.
Yeah I got the first one and I could keep up with the revised editions. These days 'though, he has a coach and the Cheneys have to veto everything he says so he doesn't do a Reagan...
Here's an interesting Sun Tzu quote: "When you have more men than your enemy, crush him. When you are equal, fight if you are able. When you are few, flee if you are able." The Art Of War was written for the battlefield 2500 years ago but (depending on how you apply it) it holds true in any competitive situation, even today. I'd recomend it to anyone, especially if you have or have to study business strategy.
