NILES -- Almost four months ago, the Michigan State Police Niles post requested that fugitives living in Indiana turn themselves in to authorities for their alleged crimes.
Since that time, more than 100 fugitives have been arrested, but the Michigan State Police is still looking for a number of South Bend residents on charges ranging from operating while intoxicated to arson to home invasion.
Notices have been sent to the last known address of each fugitive, and a spokesman for the Michigan State Police is encouraging those individuals to turn themselves in as soon as possible.
"The notice has detailed instructions to take care of the matter on your own terms rather than be arrested by troopers or another police department at an unfortunate time," Lt. Michael Brown said in a news release.
Any wanted suspect can turn himself or herself in at the Niles Law Enforcement Complex at 1600 Silverbrook Ave. in Niles.
Additional information on warrants and court procedures can be obtained by contacting Trooper Shawn Kolonich at (269) 683-4411.
Brown also encouraged residents with information on the fugitives to contact the Michigan State Police.
