Veteran Channel Africa Chinyanja broadcaster Tony Machilika died in Johannesburg, South Africa on Friday, June 15 '07, his elder brother Samuel said Monday.
Tony died of cancer at the age of 57 at a South African hospital.
Tony, who hailed from Kalima Village, T/A Nthache in Mwanza, is survived by a wife and four daughters, according to Samuel.
The family are preparing to bring Tony's body to Malawi for burial at a date that would be announced later.
Tony will be fondly remembered for anchoring news that advocated a change from one party to multiparty democracy in Malawi during the transitional period in early 1990s.
He went to South Africa in 1974 to work in the Chinyanja service at Channel Africa, a department of South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).
According to information on Channel Africa, Tony was a Senior Manager in Administration responsible for human capital, human resource development and employee relations
