Permalink Closed

Lucius Banda has been convicted by supreme court this morning for 9 months suspended sentence  for forgery and lying under oath.By virtue of this sentence he has lost his parliamentary seat and will not contest any seat for a period of 7 years.
This how dirty politics can become i hope he will concetrate on his music career.

Poor BlackMoses! he is always being fed with lies. Imagine somebody getting busy calling me sometime soon after the judgement telling me the upper court has upheld the previous ruling from the lower court. Damn.

Correction,he has not been convicted by the supreme court but rather the supreme court has upheld his conviction and sentence as handed down by the Zomba magistrate court.Remember this was an appeal by government following the quashing of the original sentence and conviction by the High court and therefore the supreme court can either uphold the sentence and conviction by the lower court (Zomba magistrate) or the high court ruling.weirdface

Seondly he has not yet lost his seat,not yet,he is still a member of parliament till someone petitions the Speaker to declare the seat vacant,it is not a natural occurence but knowing how politics works in Malawi,I will not be surprised that some horse trading will take place and the speaker will not declare his seat vacant,but then the opposite might happen as weknow Malawi is a "tit-for-tat" country and since the opposition are geared to petition the speaker to declare all the seats of those on the DPP side vacant except the six DPP Mps as well as Davies Katsonga,Lucious might just find himself out of parliament,shaaa!weirdface

Tango I dont get your point. Most of us go to school in order forus to be successful in life. Lucius`s education did not feature in his success. Membership of the Parliament does not require one to be highly educated. It doesnt require one to have a PhD to note which developments are needed in ones constituency.

Public policy isn't as simple as you make it out to be Abu'. Besides, it's one thing to know a problem exists, but having the capacity to come up with a suitable solution take's attributes you'll rarely ever find in an uneducated individual. Also, the influence of parliamentarians extends way beyond the interests of their constituencies, unfortunately. These people are responsible for creating our laws (which can get extremely complicated and have far reaching implications. How often have MW's MP's complained to the media about bills being too technical?), they are responsible for keeping oversight of Gvt (including approval of the national budget), and all sorts of things that affect the country as a whole (and require levels of knowledge and reasoning rarely achieveable without a good education).

They make it sound as if the guy is uninformed from top to bottom. Awmy, with the capabilities that Lucius have, will it make any difference if he wakes up tomorrow with a Senior certificate? Dont think that am defending the guy because we are of the same calibre {unacquainted}

He chose the easier way but people are making it difficult for him. Check the newly appointed cabinet, rumour has it that one woman does not have the same certificate and almost everybody is aware of that. they chose to prosecute Lucious of all these people with fake MSCEs. it makes sence to you but it certainly doesnt to me. i call it political persecution.
