Now that south africa looks set to blow it hosting the 2012 world cup, countries in the region must expect a tourism drought.malawi was going to make a killing with the eyes of the whole world glued to this major event but now we must as well forget it.

Gimme more details mate about how RSA might lose it and the wordl cup is in 2010. Malawi is in gear four sleeping about to engage fifth. Last year govt allocated 150 million MK for rehab of stadia but we are close to another budget session the only thing done at Kamuzu Stadium is the lights which are switched on day and night.

I agree with Bingiza Malawi is right ahead of everyone sleeping . We were supposed to start Preparing now by putting something in every years Budget till 2010 by then we were going to have Chichiri stadium rehabilitated .Just heard that Brazil have chosen Mozambique as their camping place .Malawi was supposed to take advantage of its known peacefulness and start courting countries to camp here. Malawi has an edge over Mozambique coz of language Malawi has an edge over zimbabwe coz of political instability Our Good lake was also supposed to be used . and etc , etc etc And why not use MADGE to be our Tourism Ambassador to help us be known to the outside world
Malawi has an edge over Mozambique coz of language
What language as if all the countries that will participate at the World cup will be english speakers?Already we can see that the Brazilians have chosen to camp in Mozambique because of their language conformity and infrastucure, lets just accept that we Malawians might not benefit because of poor infrastucture unless the cabinet commitee for the 2010 world cup does something worthwhile.

Have you understood game? am lost guys,is world cup changed to 2012? But I do agree that malawi is sleeping.
I understand that some boys have gotten so much excited about this whole conspirancy of Malawi cashing on 2010 tournament hosted only a few hundred miles (Kamuzu anapita kumeneko pansi ali ndi zaka khumi ndi zisanu!) away by a massive attraction of the revellers as such including a possible England or some squad camping here(pa Kamuzu Stadium /Civo or Silver).... Well, brilliant and clever thinking but coupled with wrong ideas and vain imagination.... I can never imagine Malawi standing any chance of attracting any one of the big guns with their large armies of supporters . We might have a Trinidad and Tobago or Israel camping in here and perhaps a few misguided geezers looking for weed but lets forget about the big guns. Think of it, which camping stadium , which lakeside resort, God forbids . I mean , sometimes when i look at the football pitches at the parks used for Sunday League games in London are as good as our elite and famous Kamuzu stadium itself ( and of course these parks have much better turf) , and I dont see any England /Portugal manager risking the £30million Rooney or a £40 million Ronaldo and likes getting the 20 Tambala stamps due to the toughness and dryness of our kind of turf. ......... We have some worst stadiums at the moment and its a put off to world class players. If you remember well there were rumous that South Africa nearly lost their appeal to host the tournament due to poor stadiums and FIFA was ready to take it back either to Germany or USA or Australia. They gave out a provisional 13 venues but still were told to build 5 new ones . So , gyuys think of it and in Malawi unfortunately we still use that old system yodzala kapinga but today its "turf" , amadzala kwina kena kungoyala. Last season Newcastle United spent £150,000 for a complete new surface which is almost equivalent to what Malawi Government allocate to Sports Council................................

pope, sepp blatter is the current world cup president and he was quoted in one of the media that south africans are not ready to host the 2012 world cup, so they are looking at other possibilities like the united states, these could also be unfounded speculations..the best is to look it up or google it.
go to sky news or fox channels.

The 2010 SA hosting of the world cup is on, the FIFA General Secretary, Dr Urs Linsi comments in the link below :
The world cup hasn't been postponed, plans are for it to be held in 2010. It hasn't been moved from South Africa either, other venues have been identified as "contingency options" in case events (e.g. delays, natural disasters) preclude the world cup from being hosted in SA.
Eetchef, the fact that Malawi has poor facilities today is irrelevant. The question should be whether Malawi can come up with the right standard of facilities in the time available (3 yrs). Based on that, I'd say MW as a country missed the boat long ago.

you are so right, personally i dont think malawi has the facilities enough to accomodate world cup teams especially if we cant upgrade our own sport to compete on the world stage.people forget one thing, the budget alone countries put aside during this event is enormous on malawian standards.and malawi is very poor.if our own league cant have sponsors for a certain period.

What is it about Malawi that can attract foreign teams? My answer is nothing we are retrogressing at a very dangerous rate in terms of sports in general, look at the entourage that accompanied junior athletes to Botswana and to add salt to injury they forget to get birth certificates and after a tedious road journey they are turned back for lack of proper documents damn.

ENGLAND has emerged as top alternative to host the 2010 World Cup. FIFA are worried hosts South Africa will not be ready on time as there are major worries over security, stadiums and infrastructure.England has everything in place already and FIFA chief Sepp Blatter said: England can host the tournament at short notice, of that I am sure. World soccer bosses are considering other nations, with Australia an option. But SunSport can reveal Blatter has been informed FIFA could lose billions unless they stage the tournament in England if South Africa is not ready.TV rights and marketing packages have been sold on the basis of games being played around South African time and there is only one hour difference in UK summer time.A FA spokesman said: There have been no discussions with FIFA. However, should they require contingency planning we have some of the finest stadia.

i was watching sepp blatter last night on bbc. what i was left with was the same picture i had and mentioned in my first posting(mind you, i posted way before the interview was broadcast).the western media still cant get it in there heads , come 2010 the world cup will be in africa.
you could clearly see that the person who was conducting the interview was trying to get at. its the same old, same old **** unfortunately he didnt get the answer that he was expecting..
After sepp had repeatedly said he did not foresee any changes, he keep opn asking surely the must be a plan b sepp answer "yes they is a plan b" south africa hosting the world cup"
then sepp went on to say that unless the was something unforeseable that was to happen plan c would be move the event to an altenative countrie such as america, china, jappan...because they would easly host a tornament of such a magnatude at short notice. then the annoying guy conducting the interview was like"or england". sepp said may be.

The probability that the World Cup 2010 WONT be staged in Africa is now almost 0.9 , and that simply reflects right into your face the true colour of the cunning Sepp Blatter. Read more about imperialism.

i couldnt agree with you more,he is saying south africans are not ready and England is the possible altenative because of the time difference, what a load of bollocks, talking of south africas infrastructure, i thought fifa sent delegates to south africa right before they chose it as the world cup host? unless if the decision was made randomly. south africa has the best infrastructure even the freeway roads are better than the uk, talk about the townships thats a different story.
