SHIRE ZAMBEZI WATER WAY
Permalink Closed

Guys

The other day i was surprised to read in the sunday times that the District Commissioner of Nsanje town assembly has received over two thousand application for land in that district from foreign investors who have seen the potential of the shire zambezi water way  project .

Am of  the opinion that if we put politics aside and look at the issue objectively, maybe we can take opportunity in the project as malawians .Surely the potential of this project does not need to quantified the interest of the foreign investors speaks volumes .We malawians don't  like taking risks and when the project is successful we will start questioning the criteria of granting land to the foreigners when infact we were busy politicizing the project. I think we should take this as an opportunity to  inest in this project ,Guys what do you think?

Good thread bnk, although i think malawi dont need foreign investors to start up something benefiting malawians, these people will always exploit no matter how innocent these programmes look.

I find it disturbing that land allocation in areas directly affected by the waterway project isn't being handled by a higher authority such as the Ministry of Lands. Hasn't a dedicated agency been set up to handle every aspect of the project, including the allocation of land? I have no problem with foreign investors per se, my worry is that the potential benefits of the project will be wiped away if certain issues peripheral to the project (e.g. city planning) are not given enough attention. It's a mistake to give a local authority so much influence over a project of national strategic importance.

You're right about now being the best time to get involved in the project bnk444. If 2000+ land applications from foreign investors are anything to go by, it's only a matter of time before the cost of land in Nsanje starts to rise to insanity.

Thanks for your comment s but guys i think the allocation of land will be done by the ministry of land in accordance constitution of Malawi ,Am not sure on the section but it states something like before a foreigner acquires land ,malawians should be given the priority to do so within21 days or so failure which the land be given the the foreigner.

So with this in mind all of us we have the chance to acquire that land before all those foreigners and if we do not exercise our rights then the Govt will have no choice but to sale the land to other interested parties .All the plans for this project are underway for the Town  i mean the town planning stuff.
